Training encounters with my neighbours one of whom gave £200 another of whom gave me grief, Woodlarks must get £48,000 -please donate NOW!

Published 26 May 2020, 09:29

Because of the wholly unnecessary Coronavirus lockdown there is no mass Rogue Bloggers for Woodlarks walk as planned on June 13. Instead I shall walk alone for 33.3 miles around the three biggest fields here at the Welsh Hovel.  And having done little training I am not in great shape - I am going to struggle. But I MUST finish as Woodlarks needs £48,000 just to survive so please do sponsor me HERE.As a reminder…

Notes from Underground: You'd better not pout, Chris Oil is coming to town

Published 26 November 2017, 03:52

Whelp, my letter to Father Christmas is in the bin - I have everything I want now. Chris Oil is back. If the UK's most successful B&B Operator's son/Oil Baron is truly back, we'll have clicks and pageviews for months to come. If someone is looking for Hanukkah gifts, then please please please, a Rob Terry IPO for me. I've been good.

Notes from Underground: Putting your portfolio up in smoke, willingly

Published 3 December 2017, 02:57

This week, ShareProphets writers presented seven tips to buy for Christmas, including one from me. My original suggestion was vetoed by Tom as being 'not on AIM' and 'too weird.' But I'll share it with you now.

Notes from Underground: Do you hear what I hear?

Another week where 7 out of 10 of the top articles are videos or Bearcasts. That's fine by me, it's a USP of ShareProphets membership and I'm glad that people are using one of the defining things of our site in such numbers.

One of the many arguments that I have lost with Tom is over the number of readers who reader ShareProphets on bank holidays and weekends. I always argued that the market is closed, so we should be too. Tom has argued that you guys are so obsessed that you'll sneak away from the Sunday dinner to listen to a Bearcast.

Tom Winnifrith's Annual Woodlarks Christmas Grotto Appeal – please can you spare a fiver for an amazing cause: we are 81% there after 3 days

Published 19 November 2023, 08:10

Right now there is building work underway at Woodlarks and that means that, for the first time I can remember, there will be no Christmas Grotto this year. However the Woodlarks Santa will be doing a mobile tour of schools with the sort of special needs Woodlarks is set up to deliver and to visit local hospices to see very ill children. “I want your money” as that poltroon Bob Geldof used to say.

Photo Article: Woodlarks, the Rogue Bloggers meet up as 1 group, lose Andrew Bell and cross the finish line

Published 17 June 2023, 22:01

The final Rogue Bloggers for Woodlarks trek has ended. About a mile and a half before the finish, Dr Sam, Steve Moore and reader Nick from Islington caught the old geezers bar Andrew Bell who had wandered into a pub to emerge at Woodlarks a bit later in a taxi. The remaining walkers now in increasing pain, especially me, somehow managed the last bit which really is 90% uphill and met up with heroic Woodlarks supremo  Nick Richards, posed for a group photo and headed up the drive to an enthusiastic reception from campers and carers. That always warms my heart and it is that reception I try to think about in those last painful miles. We have now raised, with gift aid, more than £27,000 so thanks to you all. If you have so far forgotten to give you can still donate HERE.

Saturday 29th May I walk 34.2 miles – will you please sponsor me and the other Rogue Bloggers for Woodlarks?

Published 28 May 2021, 13:58

I seem to have pulled some muscles in my back and shoulder and am in a bit of pain which will make tomorrow’s 34.2 mile walk from Winchester Cathedral to Woodlarks even more “fun”. But walk I shall as the quite amazing charity said that it needed to cover its costs in this year when its revenues have been eliminated by lockdown by us raising £48,000. So I will walk and I will finish. I won’t be alone but ask that you do your part and sponsor me as we seek to raise that £48,000. To those who have already done so I say thank you, to the rest of you…

The third annual Rogue Bloggers for Woodlarks walk is on June 13 2020. This year the route is increased by one mile to 34 miles and is from Winchester to the Woodlarks camp site.  As ever, myself (Tom Winnifrith), Brokerman Dan and Lucian Miers will walk but we want as many others as possible to join us.

READ THIS NOW: Give Woodlarks a few quid today to transform someone's Christmas

Published 25 October 2016, 09:35

If you read nothing else on this fine website this year please read this article. Woodlarks is a charity I have backed for years since its amazing driving force Nick Richards contacted me 15 years ago. It is a totally unfashionable charity not a well funded luvvie endorsed body. We have just donated £250 to transform someone's Christmas at Woodlarks. Can you spare a few quid?

Can you spare £5 a month for Woodlarks – YES you can!

Published 19 March 2014, 16:30

The only charity I support (it is a long story) is Woodlarks. It is an amazing organisation which provides severely handicapped folks with probably their only opportunity to enjoy a holiday each year. This is not a fluffy kitten fashionable charity. Keeping it going is hard work and the team at Woodlarks are all total heroes.

Thank God for small mercies. Now we can start a rota on who has to listen to Brokerman Dan blathering on about blockchain and what a frigging genius Clem Chambers is. For now there is a third rogue blogger joining us as we walk the 32 miles from Horse Hill to Woodlarks on July 28. He is a man who knows Horse Hill well…

I asked you to help raise £3500 for the Woodlarks Christmas Grotto appeal. You have been most generous. As you can see here, we have raised £5,185.15, with Gift aid £5,807.89. Nick Richards from Woodlarks and I would like to thank each and every one of you who chipped in. You are heroes. And I promise that, other than an en passant mention in Bearcast later, I shall not mention Woodlarks again until Christmas.  Nick says that the extra cash will go to even better presents for the online Grotto. Once again, I thank you.

Tom Winnifrith & ShareProphets Christmas Appeal - the Woodlarks Christmas Grotto

Published 19 November 2017, 07:42

This is the time of year when I ask you to consider making a small donation to ensure that folks far less fortunate than we all are enjoy some real joy this Christmas. Woodlarks is a charity with whom I have worked for years. It provides a one-off service: full holiday acccomodation for those so severely disabled that they would otherwise not get such a break.

Watching & dissecting Carole Cadwalladr’s Brexit TED talk - how I suffer for Woodlarks

Published 30 April 2019, 08:13

A reader says that he will donate £500 to Rogue Bloggers for Woodlarks if I watch and critique a talk by the crazy cat woman Carole Cadwalladr on how the Brexit vote was stolen For Woodlarks I will do anything, even this: please donate HERE. Of course, I knew Carole at Oxford ( same college, year below me) so I know what a fraud she is.

Photo Article: The veteran rogue bloggers complete the walk to Woodlarks

Published 26 May 2019, 13:29

From the Farnham golf club two and a half miles out the young folks (plus Jonathan Price, minus Steve Moore) were sent ahead to finish as promised at 8.30. Andrew Bell's knee collapsed and he had to complete the walk by taxi and the old men slogged on.
