Notes from Underground – Most read articles for the week ending April 12

By Darren Atwater | Sunday 13 April 2025

As usual, the most read non-Tom article, at number 1 or number 1 including Bearcasts is by Nigel Somerville, Ariana Gives Evil’s Sell Signal (The Last Straw) As I Buy A Few More Amaroq. The most read non-Tom, non-Nigel article is MyCelx Technologies – “pleased to provide an update on its trading and business operations”. Er, really?… by Steve Moore.

The most-read ShareProphets articles this week were:

  1. Ariana Gives Evil’s Sell Signal (The Last Straw) As I Buy A Few More Amaroq
This morning AIM-listed Ariana Resources (AAU) offered up one of Evil Knievil’s time-honoured sell signals: a poxy director buy. Meanwhile, I’ve been buying a few more shares in fellow Gold operation, AIM-listed Amaroq Minerals (AMRQ).

  2. The View From The Montana Log-Cabin As Market Turmoil Hits; Gold Stalls
Gold closed the week at $3,037 – down on last week’s $3,085 but having clocked up a new all-time high at $3,225 overnight on Wednesday/Thursday in a brief spike. That is disappointing. However, with markets generally in a tail-spin following Donald Trump’s tariffs, perhaps we should be pleased it is not far lower. As for what follows over the next few days, that is anybody’s guess but it is clear that the correction I was suggesting is here.

  3. Capital Limited – “major mining services contract”, a recovery Buy
On end of last month-announced 2024 results from mining services company Capital Limited (CAPD) and with the shares around 60p, we concluded there was, post-the-current-year, profit recovery potential to significantly above 2024’s. There’s now announced a “material” mining services contract for what is stated as being “set to be the next truly major copper operation in the world”.

  4. MyCelx Technologies – “pleased to provide an update on its trading and business operations”. Er, really?…
‘The clean water and clean air technology company’ MyCelx Technologies (MYX) states that it “is pleased to provide an update on its trading and business operations”. What of this, with already down from above 37p early this year, the shares currently further lower at 24.3p in response?

  5. Tissue Regenix – argues valuation “bears no resemblance to the prospects or the typical valuation”, but the other ‘strategic review’ participants don’t seem to concur…
‘Regenerative medical devices’ group Tissue Regenix (TRX) has issued a “Conclusion of Strategic Review & Offer Period”-titled announcement including that “the board believes the company's valuation is now at a level which bears no resemblance to the prospects or the typical valuation that a business in this sector would be ascribed”. So a value-creating conclusion to the strategic review and offer period then?

  6. Eco Buildings Group – “significantly improved” factory performance and “rising market demand”, Buy
‘Modular’ construction group Eco Buildings (ECOB) has announced that it has significantly improved production time and operational efficiency at its factory in Albania to further facilitate “rapid, high-quality” delivery. How good is this news from a 3.6p share price, just £3 million market cap?

  7. Kefi Gold & Copper – emphasises “significant recent across-the-board progress”. It’s getting there!
Steve Moore writes: Kefi Gold & Copper (KEFI) has issued a “Corporate Update”-titled announcement headlined “Significant recent across-the-board progress”. How ‘significant’ is this progress, from the company’s flagship Tulu Kapi gold project in Ethiopia, from a 0.465p share price, just over £37 million market cap?

  8. Pod Point Group – just as its finances look to require major shareholder support, a “Major Shareholding Notification”…
When I most recently wrote on Pod Point Group (PODP), describing itself as “one of the UK's market leading providers of Electric Vehicle charging solutions in the UK”, the shares were falling towards 11p in January. What about now, including on the back of a “Major Shareholding Notification”, the shares further slumping towards 6p?

  9. Ariana – Reflecting On Tom’s Interview With MD Kerim Sener: Horribly Disappointed
I have been chewing over what to do as regards AIM-listed Ariana Resources (AAU) following the recent smash’n’grab placing, the warning that it will need another in July, the creation of a stock overhang, the continuing uncertainty over Zimbabwe, the still-awaited ASX listing, the placing alongside that and the Tavsan delays. It is quite an in-tray for MD Kerim Serner and he rather bravely faced Tom Winnifrith in interview. I am still concerned.

  10. A share which could double from its current price because there is blood on the streets…
Trump and tariffs are blamed for the recent market sell off. Or perhaps US equities were grossly overvalued and this kicking, which has infected the rest of the world, was long overdue? Whatever the reason, there is ‘blood on the streets’. We think that US equities remain expensive and so do some UK stocks. But there are also good stocks that have been whacked very unfairly and so now, with blood on the streets, you can make a great return by being brave and buying. Here’s one such idea.

The most-listened-to Bearcasts this week were:

    1. Tom Winnifrith Bearcast No 1: You have no right to comment on aquisitions suggests Daniel
Rather harshly reader Daniel says that my time as a failed crony capitalist means a poor record in M&A means I cannot advise anyone on aquisitions. While fact checking Daniel I know I made mistakes but I hope I have learned from that and also from Vin Murria, the Queen of tech buy and build. I offer up some thoughts on dos and don'ts of M&A.

    2. Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: the AI bubble and as gold hits $3200+, a new record, what to do?
I discuss investing in AI and the nature of all bubbles. Then with gold at a new record high of more than $3,200 I ask where next and look at a range of stocks, some of which I own. Finally, why has Celadon (CEL) not been suspended yet?

    3. Tom Winnifrith Bearcast No 3: Hell hath no fury like a trumpeteer scorned, I am NOT selling Ariana
In today's third podcast from the Greek hovel I look at Skinbiotherapeutics (SBTX) asking if its better to travel than arrive, the ominous silence from Hydrogen Utopia (HUI), chatting to Lucian about shorting Tesla (US:TSLA) and why I think Nigel is wrong about Ariana (AAU)

    4. Tom Winnifrith Bearcast No 2 - starting the day with a medical "incident"
I relay what happened and it has thrown the whole day out of sync. Then onto a hypothetical company operating in East Africa and the Middle East, Skinbiotherapeutics (SBTX), Hydrogen Utopia (HUI), Technology Minerals (TM1) and Gary's beloved Audioboom (BOOM)

    5. Tom Winnifrith Bearcast No2: Guess who is selling Skinbiotherapeutics?
In today's main bearcast I update you on my Greek distractions look at oil, bitcoin and base rates, Argo Blockchain (ARB), Vinanz (BTC), Skinbiotherapeutics (SBTX), Optibiotix (OPTI), Hydrogen Utopia (HUI) and Kanobo, a £92 million 25.5p bear call from me, now just 0.2p and that is too high.

    6. Tom Winnifrith Bearcast No 1: blood on the streets
The plumber has rescued me and we have water. Phew. Back home I am poorer than at the start of trading as are most folks. What does one do when there is blood on the streets? En passant I cover Skinbioterapeutics (SBTX), Versarien (VRS), Legal & General (LGEN) and Imperial Brands (IMB) and much else besides.

    7. Tom Winnifrith Bearcast No 1: The aquisition Skinbiotherapeutics should make
This comes with a stack of caveats and ifs but after the latest goof by Optibiotix (OPTI) I make a radical suggestion for Stuart Ashman at Skinbiotherapeutics (SBTX). He won't do it but hear me out, it makes sense for everyone.

    8. Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: will Trump kill off Tek Capital? Tales from the Greek Hovel & More
I started my day at 3 AM but am now at the Greek Hovel. I recount a few tales including an airport ear bashing from Minoan's (MIN) Egleton, made possible by Brexit as Euroloon Jonathan Price will, no doubt, say later. Then it is Tek Capital (TEK), Microsalt (SALT), Upland Resources (UPL), Celadon (CEL) and other assorted dross.

    9. Tom Winnifrith Bearcast No 1: Dual ASX & AIM listings, Greatland, Ariana and Wellnex
Two of those are shares to own, one is a complete dog

    10. Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: Even Trustpilot has abandoned the 79th group fraudsters: the moral bankruptcy of James Knowles and Novum
Even Trustpilot (TRST) can see the game us up for the 709th Group fraudsters. You need a heart of stone not to weep at the last review which is below. But First Class Metals (FCM) and Novum do not give a FF about vulnerable old folks cleaned out and dying in misery and poverty thanks to 79th.

    11. Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: MPs of ALL parties talking bollocks on British Steel and the ghastly sister of Boris talking bollocks on the Trump crash
Everyone is talking bollocks. I start with facts not fantasies and cut through to the truth.

    12. Tom Winnifrith Bearcast No2: Belluscura issues dire warning but did it lie to investors in the recent placing?
Guidance has been withdrawn. Thr Trump tariffs are going to whack Belluscura (BELL) and I expect it to go bust. But there is a bigger question: did the company lie to investors in the recent placing. One chap I have known for decades says it gave an explicit response to his question on the tariff threat which was a total porky and he is spitting nails.
