Notes from Underground – Most read articles for the week ending 7 Sept

By Darren Atwater | Sunday 8 September 2024

Here are the most read articles and the most listened-to Bearcasts over the past seven days. The most read non-Tom article last week is Distil plc – “celebrates the first distillation at Ardgowan Distillery”. Er, what about that immediate short-term funding need though?! by Steve Moore at number 1 or number 5 including Bearcasts.

The most-read ShareProphets articles this week were:

  1. Distil plc – “celebrates the first distillation at Ardgowan Distillery”. Er, what about that immediate short-term funding need though?!
A “First distillation at Ardgowan Distillery”-titled announcement from Distil plc (DIS) is headlined “Distil celebrates the first distillation at Ardgowan Distillery with limited-edition release, Blackwoods First Drop”. Is it really ‘celebration’ time though, with the shares down from 0.6p as recently as May to a current 0.225p?

  2. Photo article from the Welsh Hovel the king of fish
The first of the five salmon being cooked for the Sharestock supper on Saturday. He is enormous and getting him in the tray was a struggle. He's now cooked and in the fridge, number two after the school run, another enormous beast.

  3. Jubilee Metals – Zambia power purchase agreement, a now-more-reliable expansion Buy
Jubilee Metals (JLP) has announced what CEO Leon Coetzer emphasises as “a critical step towards securing a reliable and continuous power supply” in Zambia as a pioneer for recent government policy. This enabling planned expansion in Zambia to add to the group’s South Africa progress suggests strong value from a current 5.8p offer share price.

  4. If the FCA was not so useless there’d be a full scale steward's into World Chess and its share price movement
I have, so many times, detailed the red flags in which World Chess (CHSS) is drowning. Yet the FCA seems unwilling to do anything about this obvious wrong ‘un in its role, no sniggering at the back, as regulator of the Standard List.

  5. The View From The Montana Log-Cabin As Gold Pauses Ahead Of Fed Rate-Cut
Gold closed the week at $2,504 – down a shade on last week’s $2,512 but still above $2,500. It also marks yet another monthly all-time high. There is talk of a potential correction ahead of the Fed meeting this month when Chairman Jerome Powell is widely expected to announce the first rate-cut of a new easing cycle – the question is whether it is a 0.25% trim or a 0.5% hacking. The market seems to expect the latter, but I am not so sure.

  6. Futura US launch so when’s the placing?
With interim results due next Tuesday Futura Medical (FUM) had no need whatsoever to flag up that plans for a US launch of its Eroxon pills, which so many customers say do not give them a stiffy, are bang on track. This is part of an organized pump as the company clearly needs to place.

  7. Helium1 drilling “success” but do the numbers really stack up?
I do not wish to rain on Peter Brailey’s parade as a centrepiece of his ShareStock presentation on Saturday will be the helium bubble and companies that are going to implode. However, Helium One (HE1) has today announced drilling results.

  8. Photo article from the Welsh Hovel: the tents go up
Bright and early came Craig and his team, now old friends. We chatted about snakes and salmon seen in years gone by. And then they put up the tents for Sharestock. Veterans will see a couple of big changes...

  9. UPDATED, BREAKING: Tern – Calamity As Wyld Collapses In The Face Of Massively Dilutive Rescue Rights Issue, VERY BELATED RNS?
AIM-listed jam tomorrow Tern plc (TERN) shares are off by 16% this morning. Shareholders might have wondered why, as was no announcement from Tern. But over in Sweden, on the “Nasdaq-of-the-North” joke exchange, the reason is well known as investee Wyld has announced a massively dilutive rescue rights issue and its shares have collapsed. Belatedly Tern has 'fessed.

  10. Disaster for Andrew Monk and Invinity: lack of sales warning, CEO “resigned”, shares crash
Gone are the glory days when Andrew Monk of VSA Capital (VSA) , where I am an unwitting shareholder, sipped champagne with Canadian fund managers purring that shares in his star client Invinity Energy (IES) were so cheap at 40p or more. Gone are the glory days of May this year when Monkey helped raise £ 57million at 23p. Today, just four months later, the shares have crashed to 13p after a shocking trading warning and with CEO Larry Zulch being “resigned” with immediate effect.

The most listened-to Bearcasts this week were:

  1. Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: are we at the FU moment for Tern and the glory moment for Kefi? I discuss salmon, big salmon, and Sharestock, Tern (TRN) and Kefi Gold & Copper (KEFI).

  2. Tom Winnifrith Bonus bearcast: Optibiotix says Probiotix fund raise illegal, beer and popcorn time, CEO Steen MUST quit I have already told Steen the arsehole that he must now resign with immediate effect and without a payoff. The arsehole has blundered big time and Steve O'Hara is the hero in getting the discounted placing to Steen's pal stopped. I discuss what should happen next.

  3. Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: what a load of corporate willy waving bollocks A title for Catriona or Matthew's dog. I discuss the bravest man coming to Sharestock, No ninety five, Bluebird Merchant Ventures (BMV), Amigo (AMGO, Eurasia Mining (EUA), Jubilee Metals (JLP) and Futura Medical (FUM).

  4. Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: Has Nigel Farage buggered First Property & Tim's top three small cap shorts I start with a couple of weather and tent stories then onto Tim Kempster's top 3 UK small cap shorts. I agree with Tim on all three. Then BSF Enterprises (BSFA), IQE (IQE), Manolete (MANO), First Property (FPO) and Gunsynd (GUN).

  5. Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: Leopards don't change their spots I start with 2 political matters that could really shake equities and gold. I cover in more detail in a podcast HERE but precis in this bearcast. Then Greek investigations, Julie Meyer and leopards don't change their spots.

  6. Tom Winnifrith bonus bearcast: Steen Anderson you are an arsehole but I am not selling my shares Another bonus podcast on Probiotix (PBX).I am very angry for various reasons. I apologise if you feel legged over. But I think we shareholders will make money despite the CEO being an overpaid arsehole with no shares.

  7. Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: red flags and bubbles In today's bearcast I discuss Probiotix (PBX), Cirata (CRTA), Amigo (AMGO), Helium One (HE1), Chapel Down (CDGP) and Technology Minerals (TM1)

  8. Tom Winnifrith Bonus Bearcast: Eco Buildings and the Litigation vehicle, why I am so bullish on both Our in house psychiatric patient Magna Carta suggests that the litigation has been dropped and that I conned you into buying these shares. I give you the facts, some hard numbers and explain why we unit holders should be relaxed and why shares in Eco Buildings (ECOB) are at 10.25p not for widows and orphans but are, potentially, spectacularly cheap.

  9. Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: late in the day news on Optibiotix & a very late utter shocker misleading double RNS from Eurasia Mining In today's podcast I discuss Optibiotix (OPTI) and Probiotix (PBX) and why Adam Reynolds must be sacked and the utter disgrace that is Eurasia Mining (EUA) which, at almost 7 PM, finally published its 2023 annual report. Also mentioned, en passant, is Powerhouse Energy (PHE)

  10. Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: It is what they don't say that is worrying I discuss Sharestock, Invinity Energy (IES) and Zephyr Energy (ZPHR)
