Aviva shares are so much more attractive than the average bond, but…
Home insurance is very boring…but rather important. I know some people choose not to bother, but I think this is very foolish. Sadly, home insurance is not particularly cheap. My (until recently) supplier had offered a good product at a sensible price, but pushed the proposed cost up over 30% and was not even willing to negotiate. Having asked a Welsh opera singer for a bit of advice (as you do), I found a more sensible deal. And all this waffle about my very boring personal home economics, brings me to the FTSE 100 giant Aviva (AV.)...- By Chris Bailey of Financial Orbit |

UK Markets Struggling – Due To Tax, Or Is There Another Contributory Explanation?
Writing in The Telegraph today, Charles Hall – the head if investment research at Peel Hunt – reckons that tax cuts are needed to get the UK economy out of third gear. He bemoans the fact that investors are pulling away from UK markets and suggests that bold tax moves could help get individuals investing again. I’m quite sure that is all true, but the elephant in the room, for me, is the not-fit-for-purpose regulatory system.- By Nigel Somerville |

Updated: Apple users – Apple is screwing up your Bearcast feed
We think that we have the Bearcast on Apple Podcasts problem worked out. It seemed to have an issue with the HTTPS that we use. If you don't have the most recent Bearcast – today’s – then click the ‘Refresh Feeds’ option on your podcast player.
If you are an Android user or you use any other podcast player except Apple’s, you can ignore this as you were probably not having any issues.

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: injecting allogeneic immunomodulatory progenitor cells into the myocardium of patients who were having coronary by-pass grafting.
I start with a travel tale that has my good pal the Euroloon Jonathan Price at last seeing a benefit of Brexit. Then a schoolboy error from me today. How many folks put 2+2 together to make 25 re trades in Skinbiotherapeutics (SBTX) today. I chat with Steve O'Hara of Optibiotix ( OPTI). Everyman Media – “continues to grow both operationally and financially”. Hmmm, does it?…
Previously writing on ‘premium’ cinemas group Everyman Media (EMAN), with the shares down to below 65p in April I concluded that I didn’t consider significantly increased net debt and a lower net asset value ‘a strong performance’ and, with also an admitted “current difficult macroeconomic environment and its impact on consumer spends”, I continued to avoid. With the shares now at 60p, what of latest news from the group?

Friday in mid-August macro excitement!
How are you enjoying your August? As always, a lot of people are on holiday or taking the opportunity to do something more sensible than the normal routine which is great. Back in the day it was always the same in the world’s fund management corporations and, as I may have bored you with before, managers going on holiday during August gave me my first opportunities to be “in charge” (nominally). And every time this happened, markets ended up being very volatile. Sink or swim times. Despite the best efforts of Long-Term Capital and the like, it all worked out absolutely fine. And that is why a bit of August market volatility is par for the course from my perspective.- By Chris Bailey |

Trafalgar Property – circles the AIM plughole with just £0.125m raised against NAV of MINUS £3.2m!
AIM-listed property disaster Trafalgar Property (TRAF) announced this morning that it has raised - or, at least, believes it has raised - just £125,000 in a placing at just 0.1p, the par price, below which the company cannot legally issue shares. This has been a total disaster ever since this crock came to AIM in 2013 at 2p per share, meaning it is a proud member of the 95% club as a property company during a property boom.- By Nigel Somerville, the Deputy Sheriff of AIM |
