Another day, and another set of expenses claimed by Julie Meyer MBE as being "on company business" from Ariadne Capital Limited, now in administration. Staff who were paid late or not at all, investors who have lost everything and the HMRC who will surely see these as more benefits in kind on which Julie should have paid tax, will be horrified. Natch this document has gone to the HMRC. This is October 2014 and is a retail special. Although the Co-op entry, 11 October, is a total hoot.
At the Co-Op on October 11 Julie bought £6.87 of cleaning products and then got £50 cashback and then claimed the whole lot on expenses. And all tax free. Genius.
But it is the retail excess here which truly horrifies us. What was it that the Good Lord Jesus said about the lilies of the field? Well sod that, this Christian splurged £680 at LK Bennett (10th), £1,030 at Emporio Armani (4th), £145 at Jyoti (October 4th) £229 on dry cleaning (October 11th) £770 at Mulberry ( 22nd), another £140 at Jyoti ( 25th). £47.31 at Leather Collection Athens ( 18th) and £473.98 at Athens Duty Free ( 18th). For reference in that month weekends began on the 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th.
There is also the vanity on show in this period of three and a half weeks - 5 spa and massages at £55 a pop, two appointments with hairdresser Richard Ward - £74.50 on Friday 24th and £188 the next day and two session at the tanning shop at £59.99 either side of her trip to Greece.
And Ariadne shareholders picked up the tab for the whole lot. Over to the taxman this goes...
Okay Julie, there appears ample evidence that despite your much vaunted piety you may have forgotten something that the Good Lord our Saviour once said. From the King James Version natch, Matthew 6 28-29:
And why are ye anxious concerning raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: yet I say unto you, that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
Ends
Praise be the Lord.
