Notes from Underground – Most read articles for the week ending Feb 8

By Darren Atwater | Sunday 9 February 2025

And yet again, Nigel Somerville is the most read non-Tom article, at number 1 or number 1 including Bearcasts for The View From The Montana Log-Cabin As Gold Sets More Records.

The most-read ShareProphets articles this week were:

  1. The View From The Montana Log-Cabin As Gold Sets More Records
Gold closed the week at $2,799 – a new daily, weekly and monthly all-time high, having posted another all-time intra-day high of $2,817. Up on last week’s $2,770, the question now is will it push on to leave $2,800 behind and my view is yes. Gold stocks also had a good week, as can be seen on the chart below of Gold against the mining ETFs GDX (majors), GDXJ (juniors) and GOEX (explorers), although they remain below their highs recorded in the autumn: there’s plenty of upside left.

  2. Another Liam “the Toke” Murray farce: Investment Evolution IPO at 80p, raises again at 1p, new CEO quits after 1 month
Why is Liam Murray of Cairn known as “the toke”? Because the most charitable explanation for him acting for such obvious frauds, is that he is permanently stoned. If he is clean and signing off on obvious gibberish I begin to worry for him.

  3. When director share buying is a sell signal: back to the struck off dentist
Yesterday I flagged up HERE why cash strapped Roquefort (ROQ) was a total bargepole stock and the shares duly slumped this morning. Now we have news of director share buying and this is another SELL signal.

  4. Xeros Technology – emphasises possible order ‘delight’, but it’s actually a significant trading warning (natch from one of Neil Woodford’s disastrous ‘revolutionising’ picks)…
Xeros Technology Group (XSG) commences a “Trading Update” announcement with that it “is delighted to share that it has signed a Letter of Intent with a major electronics distributor for an initial order of the XF3 external microfibre plug and go filter” but the announcement also includes that, overall for the group, “cognisant of potential timing issues when working with large global organisations… the board expects to achieve revenue of approximately £2.5m in the current year”. So what of a current more than 33% higher share price response to 0.70p?

  5. Pressure Technologies – argues “pleased to announce” results, so what of a share price response more than 10% lower?
Most recently on Pressure Technologies (PRES), last year with the shares falling to 34p I wrote interims state “resilient market conditions”, but though still a loss? and concluded re-iterating prior caution. The shares most recently closed at 38.5p but what of them currently more than 10% lower on the back of argued “pleased to announce” results for the company’s year ended 28th September 2024?

  6. Ariana Resources – “Excellent New Drilling Results at Dokwe”, Buy
Ariana Resources (AAU) has announced assay results from five geotechnical holes from its Dokwe gold project in Zimbabwe and that “importantly, one of the drill holes confirms the presence of significant gold mineralisation occurring within an area now referred to as the Eastern Zone, demonstrating considerable strike continuity of over 270m for this zone alone, in addition to pointing towards the further depth extent of the deposit”. This is further good news from this project then and, from a current still below £35 million market cap at a 1.8p share price, it really is not in the price.

  7. Van Elle – interims, value recovery Buy
Ground engineering contractor in the UK, Van Elle (VANL) has announced results for its half-year ended 31st October 2024 and confidence in delivering a full-year performance in line with market expectations. This looks to suggest attractive upside potential from a 37.5p share price.

  8. Gold Bursts through $2800, hits all time high – reader contest (maybe a prize one)
At $2808, gold is now at an all time high in dollar terms having been at an all time high in every other currency terms some weeks ago. To celebrate we have a contest.. Post your entries in the comments section below. There may be a small prize.

  9. Property Franchise Group – emphasises 2024 significant growth and a “strong sales pipeline”, Buy
‘The UK’s largest multi-brand property franchisor’, The Property Franchise Group (TPFG) states that it “is pleased to report significant organic and inorganic growth during the year with trading expected to be in line with market expectations” and confidence from a “strong sales pipeline”. How good is this news from a 415p share price?

  10. Today's bombshell expose on TAG HERE should be the coup de grace for the Alessandro Zamboni/Dominic White 6 company white collar crime empire. I have an admission but then call out the guilty enablers who have massive questions to answer.

The most listened-to Bearcasts this week were:

  1. Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: the case for abolishing AIM
I start with an incident in Tesco (TSCO) yesterday, then onto our gold stocks prize contest and why Kefi Gold & Copper (KEFI) is a good pick if not a stock you'd bet the ranch on. You have until 6.59 AM tomorrow to enter the contest. The the South Crofty scandal and finally why AIM needs t be scrapped.

  2. Tom Winnifrith Bearcast No 1: Harry Adams and Donald Trump, two fine and honest men
I discuss Trump's tariffs triumph and the madness of Ed Davey and others wishing to shag an economic corpse and them, after today's RNS, Kefi Gold & Copper (KEFI), pudding over egging with a claimed NPV of 15p for Tulu Kapi but why it is still such a great risk reward buy.

  3. Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: Sebastian has no bollocks
I start with Trump,. tariffs, falling equities and rising gold. Then it is Diageo (DGE) which looks very expensive and a long term sell. Then Tesco (TSCO) as a buy. What am I missing? Finally a company spaffing £8,000 a month on folks with no work ethic or no bollocks.

  4. Tom Winnifrith Bearcast No 2: My SIPP sells its Jubilee Metals and reinvests in...
I discuss why enough is enough and I have sold Jubilee (JLP), two ideas for what I should buy and where I actually reinvested the cash.

  5. Tom Winnifrith Bearcast No 2: As a half a billion fraud empire, I have serially exposed, collapses, massive questions for the FCA, Andrew Monk and Liam Murray
Today's bombshell expose on TAG HERE should be the coup de grace for the Alessandro Zamboni/Dominic White 6 company white collar crime empire. I have an admission but then call out the guilty enablers who have massive questions to answer.

  6. Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: It is not just because the boss is a complete twit
In today's podcast I cover Marechale (MAC), Rio Tinto (RIO), Tesco (TSCO), gold, Eurasia (EUA) and Woodbois (WBI) and the curse of Paul Shackleton.

  7. Tom Winnifrith Bearcast No 1: Roquefort Pleiades deal stinks as you'd expect
Everything to do with the struck off dentist Ajan Rejinald stinks and you should ignore the apparent headline value of the deal it is a joke. Incidentally having former broker Seb Wykeham as your IR man is another red flag. He is an A grade tosser.

  8. Tom Winnifrith Bearcast No 1: £80m AFC Energy to see its share price halved or to go bust?
I start with the culture wars, the bursting of the green bubble, Trump, Paris, etc. That may be the killer blow. But thee are also the dire fundamentals an looming cash crisis at this shortable £80 million market cap stock. It looks like a nil brainer bear to me.

  9. Tom Winnifrith Bearcast No 3: Why Vela should be wound up
I start with reflection on admitting to yourself that you have got it wrong on a share, ref Belluscura (BELL) and Jubilee Metals (JLP). The it is onto Vela (VELA), its rogue advisors, devout director and sheer pointlessness as a company.

  10. Tom Winnifrith Bonus Bearcast: Predator discounted placing, an uninvestable nest of deceiving scumbags
As predicted Predator's (PRD) oft repeated claim to be fully funded is shown again to be bollocks. I discuss this company in detail, I reference Conroy Gold (CGNR) in doing so. Anyone investing here is insane.

  11. Tom Winnifrith Bearcast No 1: more ballet tickets for Evil Banksta, Ouzo for the Sheriff as 2 pals of his bow out, GOTCHA Belluscura!
Oh dear, oh dear as disgraced ex tipster old mother Mike Walters would say as yet another of his disatsrous tips went horribly wring. In this podcast I discuss Belluscura (BELL), the sort of POS Walters would have tipped and also where we stand now with Nigel Wray, Adam Reynolds and David Pountney. For me, surely, even Magna Carta ( chairman of the chatroom gerbil, Winnifrith Derangement Syndrome society), must concede a double triumph?

  12. Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: The madness at Eurasia and a prediction & 4 year end trading statements
In today's podcast I look at Eurasia Mining (EUA), Powerhouse Energy (PHE), Staffline (STAF), Optibiotix (OPTI), Probiotix (PBX) and Skinbiotherapeutics (SBTX)
