Notes from Underground – Most read articles for the week ending 13 July

By Darren Atwater | Sunday 14 July 2024

Here are the most read articles and the most listened-to Bearcasts over the past seven days. The most read non-Tom article last week is by Steve Moore, with Biome Technologies – hopefully my prior warnings were heeded as now having to ‘examine ways’ to have “sufficient working capital”. Er, what about the ongoing losses? at No 1 or No 4 including Bearcasts.

The most-read ShareProphets articles this week were:

  1. Biome Technologies – hopefully my prior warnings were heeded as now having to ‘examine ways’ to have “sufficient working capital”. Er, what about the ongoing losses?
Previously writing on company describing itself as “a leading bioplastics and radio frequency technology business” Biome Technologies (BIOM), in April with the shares down to 85p I concluded that its trading didn’t provide confidence of sufficient funding towards operating cash-flow sustainability and to still avoid/sell. What of now a “Trading update” announcement… and the shares currently further down, to around 40p?

  2. Solid State – “pleased to announce” full-year results, but what about the current outlook?
‘Specialist value added component supplier and design-in manufacturer of computing, power and communications products’, Solid State (SOLI) has announced results for its year ended 31st March 2024 and current year “management confidence over the full year expectations”. So what of the shares currently over 4% lower at 1465p in response?

  3. Kefi: while morons rant from their padded cells, some of us deliver real change! Bonuses altered
Shareholders in Kefi Gold & copper (KEFI) should today be organizing the erection of a statue of my good self at the proposed Tulu Kapi gold mine for, solely as a result of my efforts, described HERE, the Company’s new bonus scheme has been changed. At the very least they should each be sending a bottle of Metaxa to Sheriff Towers.

  4. Jo Hart says Optibiotix shares should soar
Nobody really listens to me on Optibiotix (OPTI) any more but it seems that Midas columnist Jo Hart of the Mail on Sunday has more clout. I shall be seeing Jo tomorrow night as it happens. But if you are wondering why Optibiotix shares are up today, the article below is the reason.

  5. Buy Serica Energy, look at the yield
Shares in Serica Energy (SQZ) are both on the floor now for understandable reasons.

  6. Kefi Gold & Copper – Tulu Kapi “update”, on track for key catalyst ahead, this will be an eight bagger
Kefi Gold & Copper (KEFI) has issued a “Tulu Kapi Update”-titled announcement commencing that  “excellent progress is being made with the intense Early Works programme following project launch in May 2024 to take Tulu Kapi through to September”. How good is the news overall and is it factored into a 0.625p share price?

  7. Hostelworld – emphasises “Strong bookings growth”, but what about the value of the bookings?
Hostelling-focused online travel agent Hostelworld (HSW) states that it “is pleased to provide an update on trading up to 30 June 2024”, with the trading statement headlined “Strong bookings growth, FY Adjusted EBITDA guidance in line with expectations”. So what of a current share price response to 154p, approaching 5% down?

  8. Skinbiotherapeutics and Croda, only asking what is meant by early summer?
I am told by those who understand Skinbiotherapeutics (SBTX) far better than I do that it is not if Croda starts placing orders as part of its jv but the scale of those orders and the pricing. Not having the intelligence of a lemming I am prepared to accept that and as a loyal shareholder very much hope that it is true. However, good news travels fast, bad news is oft delayed.

  9. Goldstone shares up 170% but maybe still cheap, what am I missing?
Emma Priestley and Goldstone Resources(GRL) have provided good sport in the past. Discovering months after the event that your company had been struck off was a particular laugh and a half. But sometimes you just cannot argue with maths. As I speak the shares are up 170% at 1.8p but are arguably very cheap still.

  10. Dire results from VSA Capital but the bon mots of Andrew Monk and a better start to this year the silver linings
Long suffering and, in my case, accidental shareholders in VSA Capital (VSA) should have been braced for piss poor results for the year to March 31 2024. The numbers were indeed dire. But the silver lining is that this year has started better and the bon mots of CEO Andrew Monk which bring a smile to ones face.

The most listened-to Bearcasts this week were:

  1. Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: killer frogs, Alan Sugar slandering me, I'll tell you about the Aussie waitress tomorrow
Yes, I am limbering up for my first trip to London for five years, to attend the Evening Standard City pages wake at a boozer on Fleet Street. We will again swap old battle tales from the black and white era. Today I mention the killer frogs and Alan Sugar slandering me. Maybe I shall tell you about the Aussie waitress at the general knowledge quiz tomorrow. Elsewhere I discuss why I am now bearish on housebuilders, Skinbiotherapeutics (SBTX), its lack of a trading statement and three scenarios, and why Kefi Gold & Copper (KEFI) over eggs the pudding today and does not need to as its shares are still dirt cheap. Kefi's Harry Adams will be at Sharestock all day on 7 September if you want to quiz him yourself and, increasingly thinking it is my last show, I urge you, if you are coming, to book tickets today HERE

  2. Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: time to sack Adam Reynolds at Probiotix or is it a lost cause whatever?
In today's bearcast I discuss Kefi Gold & Copper (KEFI) and the hero of the hour, yours truly, Probiotix (PBX) and Technology Minerals (TM1) whose boss came to see me today.

  3. Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: Master Potts on a roll and Steve O'Hara should go on holiday more often
In today's podcast I discuss Labour's mad attack on the UK North Sea, Graft Polymer (GPL), Optibiotix (OPTI), Bluebird Merchant Ventures (BMV) and Powerhouse Energy (PHE) and buy your Sharestock tickets now HERE I reveal a new ice cream for the day!

  4. Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: red flag and other lessons from Harland & Wolff
I hope Harland & Wolff (HARL) shares come back from suspension this week and then tank. I look at other companies sharing similar problems and showing similar red flags. there is also a brief comment on France and its election of its version of Jeremy Corbyn.

  5. Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: should we care if Britvic is bought by foreigners?
I start with France which is now an outright sell and end with early signs that Labour won't end well in the UK. In between Britvic (BVC), Technology Minerals (TM1), Hydrogen Utopia (HUI), Powerhouse (PHE) and StreaksAI (STK), a pointless company run by chancers.

  6. Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: The Aussie waitress story, the Sovereign Wealth Fund con, Dave Lenigas and the Oracle rampand more
I leave shortly for the Evening Standard City pages "wake" and so offer up the story of the quiz and the Aussie waitress. Then it is Rachel Reeves and the Sovereign Wealth Fund joke, Oracle Power (ORCP), NightCap (NGHT) and Cel AI (CLAI).

  7. Tom Winnifrith photo bonus bearcast: chatting with Jo Hart of MidasA few reflections on my first trip to London in years and a Fleet Street wake for the Evening Standard City pages (see photo below) where I once worked as did Jo. We did chat.

  8. Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: take profits on Lloyds before Labour bites, Carpetright's demise and Skinbiotherapeutics and those forecasts again
It is a solo childcare weekend so I am running late. Apologies. I discuss Lloyds (LLOY) after Malcolm's piece earlier, Carpetright and its likely demise and Skinbiotherapeutics (SBTX) as well as Sharestock, if you are coming book HERE
