Tom Winnifrith Bearcast - get your wallet out to see Brokerman Dan in his undies and...Vin is back!

Thank you, thank you. we have reached our £20,000 target for Woodlarks. In fact Luke Johnson has just pledged £1,000 so we are now well over £21,000 but if we reach £25,000 Brokerman Dan will undress for you. More on that in the podcast but please donate, if you have not already, HERE. Elsewhere I look at Facebook (FB) and Robber Barons of the nineteenth century, at Imaginatik (IMTK) and Vin Murria, the Queen of Tech, at Range Resources (RRL) and at RM2 (RM") a Neil Woodford dog where I reckon cash is already looking tight, again!

FST

Frontier Smart Technologies – “radio sales orders have started to recover”… so why a further share price fall?

Frontier Smart Technologies (FST) has updated including “in recent weeks, Frontier's radio sales orders have started to recover” and “Smart Audio revenues in H1-2018 are expected to be up 19 per cent year-on-year”. The shares have responded… er, currently more than 7% further lower below 50p…

Goodwin – shares soar on results & dividend increase… but more to come?

Mechanical and refractory engineering company Goodwin (GDWN) is “pleased to” report results for its year ended 30th April 2018 – and the shares have currently responded more than 23% higher, to 2300p, on the back of the announcement…

VLTY

Veltyco – EBITDA “likely to be marginally below budget”… & receivables?

A previously successful tip on the Nifty Fifty, the HotStockRockets team thought shares in Veltyco (VLTY) again looked to represent an opportunity earlier this year - but apologised and moved to sell at 73p in June. The stock last closed at 64.5p – but is currently heading towards 50p on the back of a “Trading Update”

You say Facebook...and I say Fadebook

Let's start off with a confession...I am actually not on Facebook (FB in the US) and have actually no real interest in ever getting a profile. Perhaps that makes me an unsociable Billy No Mates...or maybe it makes me a trendy young thing, aware that the creation of Mark Zuckerberg is looking a bit shabby around the edges after a last year full of privacy challenges, embarrassing Congressional testimony, two fingers to House of Commons committees and share sales by a certain M Zuckerberg. More on all this in a second. The reason why today I am ignoring the bevy of large cap UK listed stocks that have reported is because the most fascinating move in global markets over the last 24 hours was the after hours 20% plunge of Facebook shares post its quarter two numbers disclosure.

OCT

Octagonal – those GIS numbers: more misses than hits

I said I would take a look at the annual accounts to March 2018 of Global Investment Strategy UK Ltd (GIS) which AIM-listed Octagonal (OCT) owns. After all, Octagonal announced by RNS in April that GIS expects to report EBITDA of £3.01 million, a record for the Group, on sales of £6.53 million for the year ended 31 March 2018 and that cash in the bank or equivalents more than £5m as at 31 March 2018. Hmm – let’s see how those statements worked out.

Non-Glamorous Companies Often See Their Shares Glitter - and This Is One of Them

Hello Share Shiners. The Yorkshire saying 'Where's there's muck, there's brass' can be usefully modified in Shareland. We can change it to 'Where there's a boring product, there's brass'. So often, the best performers in my bag are as humdrum as a wet Monday afternoon.

EYE

Eagle Eye Solutions – full-year trading update emphasises a “Breakout year”, so why a 12%+ share price decline?

A trading update for its year ended 30th June 2018 from Eagle Eye Solutions (EYE) is headlined “Breakout year sees delivery of world leading digital loyalty programme for Loblaw”. The shares have responded… er, currently circa 12% lower to around 150p…

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: C'mon Dave Lenigas tell your UKOG twitter trolls that attacking a charity for the disabled is disgusting

As of last night a group of UK Oil & Gas (UKOG) twitter trolls have moved from attacking me over THIS ARTICLE to having a pop at Woodlarks over the walk on Saturday. Big Dave Lenigas is copied in on these tweets. I urge him to state clearly that attacking charities for the disabled is obscene and to make a donation HERE - as should any bearcast listener who has not done so already!  I have recorded a special Woodlarks podcast today which you can listen to HERE. In this bearcast I ask what will make an overvalued market crack and look at Tern (TERN), Amur (AMC), Metals Exploration (MTL), Optibiotix (OPTI) and Uk Oil & Gas (UKOG) once more.

Metal Tiger – recent significant developments, a speculative buy?

Mineral resources sector investment company Metal Tiger (MTR) was a tip on HotStockRockets, though with that focused on fast-moving situations and the stock having been in the portfolio for a while, it was suggested in May selling into the relative strength. There have been some significant developments since…

WGB

Walker Greenbank – from ‘anticipates further improvement in H2’ to “materially short of the board's expectations” in less than a month (and at 4:27pm)!

Yesterday at 4:27pm (i.e. around no-one-watching o’clock), a “Trading Update” announcement from Walker Greenbank (WGB). What were the odds of good news?...

Oil-Rig

The reality of fracking in the UK and the looming energy crisis

Was yesterday’s news from Cuadrilla the start of a fracking boom in the UK?  I fear not. Look through the spin and at the reality. The true nature of this politically driven disaster is discussed by the city’s No 1 oil analyst Zac Phillips, of SP Angel, below

Exclusive: Administrator files new damning report into Julie Meyer's Ariadne Capital Limited

It is not yet up at Companies House but I have obtained a copy of the latest report by Leonard Curtis into the administration of Ariadne Capital Limited (ACL), the flagship company of Julie "Lingerie on Expenses" Meyer MBE. I reproduce it in full below and it will make very uncomfortable reading indeed for Ms Meyer.

TERN

Tern – yet another placing (told ya!) and investee InVMA goes shopping

Time to get out the ouzo, for AIM-listed jam-tomorrow investment company Tern plc (TERN) has raided the bucket shops once again – this time raising £2.9 million (before expenses) at 26p, a discount of 21%. In a separate announcement, we are also told that investee company InVMA has been shopping – but no financials are offered and I fancy that is because the purchase is quite insignificant - it was, after all, an RNS Reach.

ITV

ITV - a rather dull strategic update...but that's no bad thing

So after over six months of musing, the day has finally arrived. A strategic update from ITV (ITV), put together by newish CEO Carolyn McCall is, in summary, not really that radical or exciting. However I am perfectly happy with this and - as discussed at the time of my last write-up on the stock HERE - I think all this does is further embed the rationale for Liberty Media to buy this UK media name.

Julie Meyer lies to the US tax man but has she diddled HMRC out of more than £200,000?

I have today written to the HMRC as it appears that Julie “Lingerie on expenses” Meyer MBE may owe it around £200,000 in unpaid tax. I say “may”, I hope – given the parlous state of the UK’s finances – that it checks this out to see if it indeed this is money owing. It is all to do with her apartment in London.

AVCT

Medical Marriage of Ideas Could Speed Avacta to Greater Glory - at Last

Hello, Share Dollies. One of those shares which never does much, despite what seems on paper to be a promising future is Avacta (AVCT). It's a maker of vet's stuff and also has a big interest in affimers, which are a substitute for antibodies for human medical research and diagnostics.

My penultimate appeal for your cash – THREE days to the Woodlarks walk, £18,000 now raised – we want & Woodlarks wants and needs twenty!

Sunday was my last big training walk – 22, 23 or 24 miles in the Somerset hills. I am not sure how long it was as the signs were dreadful and I got a bit lost.  But I made it and feel confident that this Saturday coming up I can do the 32 miles from Horse Hill to Woodlarks with fellow rogue bloggers Brokerman Dan and Lucian Miers.

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: Hell's teeth Lucian says it is actually 33 miles! IQE - I smell panic & Rangers' Dave King Court date

Brokerman Dan has been replaced as the maps man on our Woodlarks Charity walk on Saturday. Perhaps we now know why in his former career he did not always get away. For it turns out that the walk is not 32 miles but 33. Lucian has mapped it out in full. Cripes. We now need just over £2,000 to reach our £20,000 target so if you hav e not yet sponsored me please do so HERE. Get us to target & I will shut up about it. In the podcast I look at IQE (IQE), Rangers FC and another date in court for Dave King, Thirsty Paul Scott not understanding what research means & wanting me not to cover Sosandar (SOS), Cenkos (CNKS), ADVFN (AFN) and Online Blockchain (OBC), Highlands Natural Resources (HNR) and Fishing Republic (FISH) which, I think, is AIM toast in waiting
