Disclosure: I have no positions in any stocks mentioned, and no plans to initiate any positions within the next 72 hours. I wrote this article myself, and it expresses my own opinions. I am not receiving compensation for it (other than from ShareProphets). I have no business relationship with any company whose stock is mentioned in this article.

ROSE

Rose Petroleum – still a sell – target 1.6p or less

Since my last article on Rose Petroleum (ROSE) I have received a barrage of abuse and even threats from shareholders who disagree with my stance. If they think I am wrong they should buy more and if I am wrong they will make money. If I am right they will lose more. Ultimately it is fundamentals that determine a share price not articles in the press.

Comments

  1. I agree .
Sell Rose and buy UKOG and LGO on dips .

  2. The Mad Stork

I have no problem with him airing his opinion on the fundamentals. I strongly disagree but respect his right to do so.

What I do have a problem with is writing things which he knows are not true.

“Some folks think they have flipped already but it is illegal to forward sell into a placing and so given the law abiding nature of the City I stand by my view that the share price depressing flipping will start on Monday.”

This is simply not the case. Shareprophets have an entire feature dedicated to the dodgy goings on around placings. His own editor wrote an article (which he linked to) about the recent ROSE placing making exactly this point. One of the main stated goals of Shareprophets is to expose dodgy City practices – of which forward selling is definitely one – and now Chris is saying that in this case nothing untoward has happened?

I’m sorry but this is just not credible.

  3. Mad Stork

There is surely a mid path?
I am in no doubt that some City spivs do forward sell and break the law. I am with you 100% on that.

However the volumes of last week imply that even had ALL the folks in the placing been bent they did not all forward sell.

I suspect the vast majority are still in. Some may be long term holders but my view of those City firms who take part in discounted placings is not a charitable one. Most are spivs.

As such if they are offered a chance on Monday to bank a quick 30% plus gain so they can move their capital onto the next deeply discounted placing they will grab that chance by the testicles.

As such Ben is right – there was bound to be some forward selling.

But Chris is also right, there is still a very big overhang with folks who regard a two day trade as a long term investment.

So I would back BOTH Ben and Chris for telling the truth.

    T

  4. Shareprophets at its best, two vastly opposite views backed up by a third stating they’re both right. I must be one of the bb morons, thats me quitting advfn, there’s too much hidden agenda here, hope more people cancel their accounts to show how low this website has become.

  5. The Mad Stork

    Tom,

Agree entirely with your analysis. And I certainly share your lack of faith in placing participants

But surely there is a very large correlation between forward sellers and day one flippers, i.e. most of those who would flip on day one have already forward sold.

One only has to look at, well, pretty much every recent AIM placing to see that the falls happen:

    1) Pre-placing as the spivs forward sell

    2) On the day of the announcement as the rest of the market is informed that they’ve just been had.

The actual day of admission of the shares never has any significant effect as the market has already priced them in. And that is where Chris is being disingenuous in my view.

  6. Mad Stork

Just looking at the volumes last week it seems to me that most of the stock has not yet been flipped. If the shares stay at 2.3p tomorrow I sense rather more will be

    T

  7. Kind K

(aka a mad poltroon who has posted largely about QPP here, spouting errant nonsense if you & check historic posts) – you really are a prize twat.

    a) this site is not owned by ADVFN. ADVFN is a minority shareholder.

    b) If you fucked off and did not come back gain it would not cost us a cent since we charge nothing. Do you think I really care?

    c) We do not order our writers what to write – we welcome a diversity of opinions as should any investor who wants informed debate.

    d) Record registrations to this site in the past 2 weeks. Site numbers are up by just under 5% in the past fortnight. Page views per day up to new record highs. So I guess while most folks appreciate quality and diverse comment you just want to lap up a monologue of one way ill informed ramping. Have fun on the LSE boards.

Please see if we care if you leave, just piss off and leave us alone!

    Tom

  8. The Mad Stork

    Tom,

I’ve no doubt that the placees will take profit as appropriate and that they will sell into rises. That always happens.

What I am disputing are Chris’ assertions that

    a)no forward selling took place

b)that the actual admission of shares to trading will cause the SP to drop.

Both of those are plain wrong in my view.

    Kind K,

The publication of differing opinions is actually one of the main strengths of ShareProphets.

  9. Chris is quite right . The spiv has inside knowledge …….which is insider trading …… which is illegal.

Just report him to the FCA and look overhead for flying pigs . Battersea power station is a good place to spot them .

  10. Wow Tom, hit a nerve have we, you’ve certainly got a great command of English swear words. Perhaps a bit more professionalism wouldn’t go amiss. Might back up your claim about constructive debate.

  11. Kind K

I swear proficiently in English at a professional level. In terms of swearing I regard myself as a gifted amateur in a few other languages.

As for you, I thought you were buggering off and removing your custom. As noted above we will not miss you in the slightest and I was rather not looking forward to having to approve your moronic contributions.

Might you just be a man of your word and fuck off to the LSE morons ramping website and leave us alone here?

Go on, please do what you say and just GO AWAY!

    Tom

  12. from The Mad Stork “Kind K, The publication of differing opinions is actually one of the main strengths of ShareProphets. “
Yep what keeps me coming back here, and the entertainment value of seeing some of these idiots tbh. It’s almost unbelievable.

  13. Tw, yeah i’m now a non paying member, but luckily you can still post on here free! Whats your tip of the week Tom, wanna make sure i’m not in it. Defo buying more Rose on Monday as Chrisoil (smooth fecker) rates it a sell.

  14. Kind Knievil

So to get this through your thick skull THIS IS NOT ADVFN. ADVFN has zero say in what goes on here.

So you have boycotted it but will still grace us with your moronic presence. How fortunate we are.

My tip of the week for you? Go get a brain transplant from a donor who has one

As to your portfolio, QPP, Rose, hmmmmm - I think it is unlikely that I will tip anything which someone as thick as you has opted to buy. So you are safe there

    Tom

  15. Tw, so Scott Winter now rates it a buy, why dont you all put in a joint article on rose, entitled “To be honest, we haven’t got a fucking clue”, or “buy, sell, hold, you heard it here first”.

  16. KK

There is no prize at the AIM Cesspit awards for the stupidest person in Britain but if there was you’d be a slam dunk.

For the zillionth time… we do NOT tell our writers what to write. They all have their own views. They write about what they want and can say Buy, Sell or Hold as the wish.

    Chris says SELL
Scott wrote in and asked if I would publish an alternative view, a BUY.

I am happy to do that – I want to see all views.

Personally I have no view on ROSE so won;t be writing a piece either way.

And answering posts from someone so incredibly stupid as you all day is doing my head in.

    Please just either :

get a brain transplant so you do not write such utter crap

    or

piss off and leave us all alone

    T

  17. To me ROSE sounds more and more like the early days of HAWK.

You only have to read the HAWK BB’s to see how many PI’s got caught up in the shale play hype and are now stuck on an average of 50p+. I am almost certain that there will be similar PI’s in ROSE by the end of the year.

    Good article Chris.

  18. Tw, think we’re forming an understanding here, a mutual disrespect lol! Invite me round for a free pizza and i’m sure we can be best of pals.

  19. KK

Hmmmm. I provide a service for which you pay £0.

You try to organise a boycott of ADVFN so that it will stop doing business with me…

That is because you do not like me asking nasty questions that QPP does not want to answer.

You post inane comments on this website which show that you have an IQ of about minus 10

And now you want ME to buy you a pizza and spend time with someone who is obviously a congenital idiot as well.

I think that even a congenital idiot will see why I’d decline that offer.

    T

  20. Tw, apologies, didnt mean the advfn comment to sound like you have taken it. Perhaps an ill thought out post by me. Will cease now.

  21. KK

Thank you for the apology. I tend to think that your comment

“ thats me quitting advfn, there’s too much hidden agenda here, hope more people cancel their accounts to show how low this website has become

    is fairly explicit.

There is no hidden agenda here. We allow writers to say what they think. I am aware that other websites have buckled to folks threatening to cancel accounts if certain adverse comment is not ceased.

We shall bow to no such pressures. Or if we do I quit!

    Tom

  22. Tom

I have the utmost respect for people with adverse opinions… How are we to ever to progress without questioning the obvious?

But.. For me you are rupert merdoch, you see yourself as the “aim sherif” Peter Pan of the market … you give no toss for f/a other then your own personal agenda… This agenda doesn’t roll off dollars and fast cars it rolls off self ego and recognition. Which is worse?

I do not post on lse (banned for being realistic) but you refer to all posters as mug punters? #bel #riddler #stubbsy and the good man #doc have made far better calls in the last 6 months then you and all of you minions.

Your personal calls on qpp were respectable, researched, good articles that maybe for those with 2 sides of a brain made them question the obviously known unknown, your out right disrespectful obsession of being rite (because of your self ego) is #bollocks

    P.s rupert merdoch wouldn’t print this…..

  23. Catempire

Well I would print it & did.

I call punters who are mugs mug punters. Just as I call those who go on Bulletin Boards and act like Morons, BB Morons. That is not to say all punters are mug punters or all BB users are BB Morons.

I guess my logic classes at Oxford were not totally wasted – well done Prof Malpas.

Ahh you are a fan of Bel who termed me a bastard and said I was all wrong on Astar still waiting for his apology.

My agenda? Write what i enjoy writing and hope others enjoy it too. Expose liars (astar) and crooks ( er…). Pretty simple.

    T

  24. Can we see evidence of where he called you a bastard? He is denying it and you keep throwing it out there so how about a link?

  25. Jamie

He retweeted a tweet. Dan Levi confronted him and then he deleted the RT and denied it.

I blocked the twat after he sent a series of whacko tweets – he obviously needs to up his medication

    T

  26. He admitted that he retweeted it. Not really like he said it although he may agree with the sentiment.

  27. Tom I would have thought a modest multi lingual Oxford graduate such as yourself would have the brains to realise proof reading the articles and moderating them before publishing is needed to savour share prophets credibility, instead of releasing daily mail style un researched journalism that has called it wrong more times then rite. MSMN, ASTA and now ROSE, their are some good articles on here but letting minions use it like a play ground is pretty stupid IMO

I’m all for free speech and on that note why do you care if bel called you a bastard, everyone’s entitled to their opinion, no?

All the best. I look forward to your DUC tip when it comes out, shame you didn’t tip it before suspenders as it could have proved to be the tip of the year!
