Last business day of the month. Last day of a departing CEO’s corporate reign. Last chance to ‘kitchen sink’ the corporate earnings guidance numbers in the UK’s largest food retailer? A share price back to the level of a decade ago and a 75% cut in the interim dividend does not make pretty headlines.

Thanks for sharing these press comments. Useful for the debate. Now you can see why I mentioned the institutional embarrassment factor and apocalyptic headlines. It is good that such discussions and analysis are happening because, in my view, this helps form the sentiment lows. Going to be volatile and opinions and positions will be deeply divided. My general views as above.

Do you think bad news factored in current price or could fall further to 200p before 1st October? I am tempted to enter now and feel more blood in the air.

Clive – you have a good flavour of the debate from the article and the comments. Over such a short period anything is possible due to the myriad of influences on sentiment and the market generally. Inherent in my pension fund positioning is a belief that I will make say 50% from the position over the next 2-3 years. If Mr Market wants to be more pessimistic then, all other things being equal, I will buy more stock – and talk about it here. Good luck.
