Disclosure: I have no positions in any stocks mentioned, and no plans to initiate any positions within the next 72 hours. I wrote this article myself, and it expresses my own opinions. I am not receiving compensation for it (other than from ShareProphets). I have no business relationship with any company whose stock is mentioned in this article.
Earlier this year blinkx (BLNX) shares took one hell of a beating when my good friend Ben Edelman exposed them for engaging in business practices which were illegal. Blinkx huffed and puffed and employed bully boy lawyers but has not managed to refute Edelman’s charges which you can see him outline HERE. You would have thought it would have learned its lesson…au contraire.

Given the research you seem to put into your posts you must have missed this on purpose?

Blinkx are doing nothing wrong. Adware is not illegal. Share Prophets and ADVFN are full of adverts.

I think you confuse adverts and adware

T. From a users perspective any advert is annoying. ShareProphets and ADVFN make money on their ‘free’ bulletin boards/web pages by selling adverts. Blinkx makes money, as do many other companies, by selling adverts on its ‘free’ software. The main point is the user gets the choice whether to use the services provided or not. Nothing is free in business, not even on the ‘free’ internet.

Isn’t the thing about the internet age that companies are constantly having to come up with new ways to make money? In other words, yes, this may not be sustainable but it will make money for a while until the next thing comes along. Who knows how much longer FB and twitter and instagram etc will continue to increase their markets. All these innovative business ideas have a shelf life which seems to be getting shorter and shorter actually.

Of course nothing is free which is why advertising exists on the www.
But you need to recognise the difference between adware and advertising. Suggest you check it out on google/watch Ben’s presentation to see why 1 is ok and the other not.
Gareth
Not really – advertising has been a constant on the www since its started and it is growing. That is a sustainable model. Breaking the law is not.
