Hello Share Squeezers. Having recently moved house with the aid of a hired furniture van, I can attest that there is a lot of competition out there. However, there is a large hirer of light commercial vehicles which seems a rather interesting play to me. It’s called Northgate (NTG) and it buys lorries, vans and cars which it rents to businesses and private drivers. Eventually it sells these vehicles.

Ah – NTG. I cringe whenever I see one of its many vans out and about. And there are indeed many. I was oblivious to them prior to ‘investing’ in it briefly a few years ago before the SP drop. I quickly got cold feet and didn’t stay in for long, though. The poor circulation at my extremities was due to my erroneously reasoning that the bleak financial situation that was developing in Spain was bound to hit their revenue hard due to its significant presence there. Of course, this was precisely WHY it was the right time to invest given that it can be more expensive to buy than hire – as you say – at least in the short term and the inevitability that there’d remain a demand for commercial transport. Sure enough the shares rocketed soon after. Such is life. Anyway, no more dabbling for me for the time being….
