Minster Law is a York based law firm operating in the Personal Injury market and with 800 employees is a material player. And its results for last year are just out and are dire and that has a dramatic read across for Quenron (QPP).

Tom Does Minster Law have the same business model as QPP? I am not sure it does.
LASPO might work better at Quindell, as the model was in anticipation of these reforms.
In any case, as you say, in a couple of weeks things should be clearer. So in the meantime, stop
scaremongering?

Minster Law is a little different from QLS in the sense that they get the majority of their RTA work from Legal Expense insurers.
Over the last 12 months QLS have bought in their cases at around £650 each according to their suppliers
On average they make £950 a case so a gross margin of just £300.
LASPO has made RTA work very tight which is why law firms in general have moved into NIHL – but with average settlement times of 6 months for RTA and 2 years for NIHL you need very deep pockets to pay for working the cases.

I wonder if the Criminal Justice and Courts Act 2015 (passed by Parliament four days ago) and its outright ban on offering any inducement or incentive to anybody to make a claim will put the kibosh on the hearing loss rubbish they do?
You see the “business model” is that a scummy Claims Management Company buys names from a scummy marketing agency, and offers a “free hearing loss test” (i.e. an inducement which is now banned).
At the free hearing loss test (which is not a medical expert test and has no legal standing), the punter is persuaded to sign on the dotted line, with a load of marketing shite (which I have seen) about it being no-win no-fee and no risk so why not have a go. [incidentally the idea that they reject any but the good claims is ludicrous – they take anybody who will sign]. Only then do their claims get assessed and then get referred to a proper hearing loss assessment.
It’s a grey area, but my money is offering a “free hearing test” falls fairly and squarely within the ban – which means QLS getting struck off by its regulator, and also means the CMCs getting struck off by Claims Management Regulation.
I wonder if anybody will report them.

So when I have my regular eye test, it is an inducement?

When you get your regular eye test, do you get it for free?
If I offer you a “free” eye test in return for you agreeing to buy contact lenses from me, then it is an inducement, isn’t it. Remember the “free” hearing test is only for the use of the punter and is not used in court or in any proceedings. It has no actual purpose. The client gets sent off to another hearing test for that. It is just the hook on the radio ads, “d’ya fancy a bit of free cash, lad. Come to us kidda and get a free hearing test”
