Breaking news and expert analysis on fast-moving AIM and LSE listed shares

I look at Mosman Oil & Gas (MSMN) and its proposed Aussie takeover which - as I explain - must now be in terrible trouble - target here 1p. I look at the pointless Forte Energy and Red Emperor and then a read through from Produce Investments. I also propose a new "£4 million Rule" for the AIM Casino - what do you think?

£4m eminently sensible Tom – in fact I’d do away with AIM altogether and insist that all companies on quoted UK markets are fully listed. that way you introduce a much higher level of corporate diligence & ethics and cut out the cowboy Advisers, Nomads, Accountants & Solicitors. Any small company which cant make the grade as a fully listed one should be only be invested in by Private Equity & Venture Capital Investors 0 they are the professionals at dealing with these shit, microcap companies and would quickly weed out the losers. Private Investors should simply not be allowed to invest in AIM-type companies.

Maybe companies should only be allowed to list once they are making £1m of profit? As you say yourself, profits are sanity…oh hang on that would mean that the 90% of AIM that is resource stocks would have to de-list. Shame

Terrible idea Tom. You would be playing into the hands of crap management.
Let’s assume Shitco raises £5M at a pre-money value of £5M (£10M post) with a bunch of crooked management holding say 40% between them. If you impose a market cap floor below which the company gets de-listed you would be dangling a carrot in front of them to deliberately bust the company and take it private whereby they nick the cash anyway via the backdoor of a private company (a delisted company has no obligation to return cash to shareholders). Good investors would obviously try and buy stock to prevent this floor being reached but this would simply provide undue demand on the shares and give the same crooked management an opportunity to sell down. Either way, unscrupulous management end up either nicking the cash pile or selling their shares or even BOTH!
If you want to stop shit companies on AIM you need to prevent them from listing in the first place. Far tougher requirements and higher hurdles and proper penalties and sanctions for NOMADs and brokers who represent POS businesses. Perhaps 5 years of properly audited financial statements, proper warranties given by management, punitive penalties for fraud/shenanigans and more consistent financial reporting including RNS statements.

Indeed the system of proper regulation you suggest would be ideal. But what about Zombie companies? No fraid there but they are just feedstock for parasites, the needs to be a mechanism to clear them out
