Most recently on ‘data, business insights and payment solutions’ group Vianet (VNET), in November with the shares down from approaching 100p in the summer to around 65p I wrote it ‘states “pleased to provide a positive trading update”, but how ‘positive’ is it really?’ concluding to still avoid. The shares most recently closed at 72p but what about them currently falling back to around 65p on a “pleased to announce… USA Contract Win and Trading Update”?

However, with the shares down from approaching 100p in the summer and remaining around 65p on the update, how “positive” really is it?
Most recently writing on Vianet Group (VNET), now describing itself as an “international provider of actionable data, business insights, and payment solutions”, last month with the shares down to 101.5p I stated interims arguing “in line with management expectations” actually meant very demanding second half requirements and to still avoid. What of now a “Trading Update” and the shares currently lower in response at around 90p?
Most recently writing on Vianet Group (VNET), now describing itself as “a leading international provider of actionable data and business insights to the hospitality, unattended retail vending, and remote asset management sectors”, last month with the shares down to 117p I concluded, having previously cautioned including with the required delivery uplift to meet forecasts, that with the now further doubts on that and a valuation, particularly on bottom-line metrics, which still looked to leave precious little margin for such doubt, to still avoid. What of now “pleased to present” results for its half-year ended 30th September 2024 and the shares now at 101.5p?
Business jargon group (Oops, I mean group providing “actionable data and business insights through an integrated ecosystem of connected hardware devices, software platforms and smart insights portals”), Vianet (VNET) has issued a “trading update” commencing that its half-year ended 30th September 2024 performance “reflects the strength of its business model” and including “positioning the group well for continued growth and success in the upcoming periods”. So what of a current share price response 4.5% lower to 117p?
I previously wrote on Vianet Group (VNET) towards the end of 2022, concluding cautiously with the shares at 63.5p though noting I’d monitor for trading momentum and cash generation swings. The shares were at the same level at the end of October last year but have risen significantly since and currently further today to 116p on the back of “Contract Win” and “Trading Update” announcements. How’s the group’s trading momentum and cash generation now?
