However, emphasising performance relative to the market tends to mean it’s challenging in absolute terms…

Most recently on ‘the UK’s leading tile specialist’ Topps Tiles (TPT), in May with the shares falling below 34p I wrote ‘interims, will there really be its expected “profit upside in the second half”?’ – concluding, with the macro backdrop looking to have worsened through the period, I retained my outlook caution which had served well and still avoid. The shares most recently closed at 35.8p but what about them now falling back below 34p on a ‘Q3 Trading Update’ headlined “Continued strategic progress amid near-term challenging market conditions”.

What about a share price, already down from 50p towards the end of 2025, currently slightly further down at below 34p?
