Nick a) I bet you that he and his family use the ECHR to stay hereb) Deporting 1 or 2 folks oit of the 50,000 + here as asylum seekers ( number maybe more who have slipped through gaps) is not exactly tackling the issye in a meaningful way. I do however accept that acceptance rates on new claims are down from 98% to 10% which makes sense. Syill Id love to understand how those 10% got through and on what grounds?
NickJPs claim was about the kids of asylum seekers outperforming at GCSE. I challenged him and you to provide data on that. The data you provide also offers no evidence on that claim.tom
Tom you're right about Chinese and Indians but those aren't the only outperforming groups. Source: https://epi.org.uk/annual-report-2026/annual-report-ethnicity-2026/ There's enough data here for anyone to prove whatever they want, but see eg fig E7 showing that for 16-19yo educational attainment Black Africans outperform White Brits and the outperformance has grown since before the pandemic. Within the Black African category there aren't enough Eritreans for us to make reliable conclusions about that cohort.
On Syria - isn't our Government doing exactly what you ask? See eg https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2026/oct/11/surgeon-faces-deportation-syria-uk-home-office-revokes-refugee-status-syrians
I dont think it insane. I have stocked up on candles, am replacing the wood burning stove so we can cook even if gas and electricity are off and I have about three weeks supply of tins and jars of pasta, lentils and home grown preserves just in case.I ponder getting an alternate source of power to keep the three freezers going
You will probably think this is insane, but I am investing in long life, easy to store physical food supplies. Our food supplies are heavily dependent on fertilizer and chemicals, predominantly derived from oil. There are currently serious shortages of nitrogen fertilizer. The southern hemisphere is just entering the spring growing season, so if the situation does not improve soon they will be impacted. Much more food production comes from the northern hemisphere, so if the current situation extends into the spring we could be in serious trouble. At the very least we will get strong food price inflation. If I can't buy food which would I rather have, a share in Amaroq or a tin of beans. I think the answer is obvious. Lets hope that it isn't needed, but if it is I will be prepared.
on your daqta cite your source?I am sure that kids of indian and chinese migrants outpace native brits.but kids of eritrean asylum seekers? I'd love to see your hard data on that
