I dont think it insane. I have stocked up on candles, am replacing the wood burning stove so we can cook even if gas and electricity are off and I have about three weeks supply of tins and jars of pasta, lentils and home grown preserves just in case.I ponder getting an alternate source of power to keep the three freezers going
You will probably think this is insane, but I am investing in long life, easy to store physical food supplies. Our food supplies are heavily dependent on fertilizer and chemicals, predominantly derived from oil. There are currently serious shortages of nitrogen fertilizer. The southern hemisphere is just entering the spring growing season, so if the situation does not improve soon they will be impacted. Much more food production comes from the northern hemisphere, so if the current situation extends into the spring we could be in serious trouble. At the very least we will get strong food price inflation. If I can't buy food which would I rather have, a share in Amaroq or a tin of beans. I think the answer is obvious. Lets hope that it isn't needed, but if it is I will be prepared.
on your daqta cite your source?I am sure that kids of indian and chinese migrants outpace native brits.but kids of eritrean asylum seekers? I'd love to see your hard data on that
Given that there is genocide against the alawites ( the tribe of assad) Id grant all of them asylum. But any syrian who came here seeking refuge from assad as he supported the other side surely has no right to remain now that the other side are in charge. And if you think the new guy is a menace to non alawite, christian, druze or kurd syrians (all of whom he is genociding), , i.e. to everyone why the hell is he welcomed to Downing st and showered with UK taxpayer cash?
Recent news from the educational world - children of asylum seekers and other immigrants do better in GCSE tests than native British. This in turn will lead to higher incomes than native British in due course. and thus pay more tax. As for the Syrian question, it is a little more complicated (of course) than you represent. Refugee questions are judged on an individual basis not on a group basis. It is entirely possible that a 'mainstream Syrian' (whatever the hell that means) might have a genuine asylum claim; equally an Alawite might not have a valid claim.
I think you'll find that GPM do receive some dividends from some of the holdings NIgel, it won't be a large amount but it's all cash incoming so it's strictly not the case that all the dividends paid by them are 100% out of capital.Like you I see upside next year, all hinging of course on the gold and silver price on which I'm very bullish.Hope the beans weren't cold time you ate them!
