You may not be able to buy more gold but so what? There is nothing magical about gold. You can't eat it, you can't drink it or ride it. What you can do is labour for a day and buy many more goods and services than your peers could in 1900 or 1975 for the same day's labour. I would recommend Matt Ridley's book, The Rational Optimist, which spells this out clearly with far more data than Mr Frisby's little charts.
Do you think the average 20 year old living in the UK today has a better quality of life than his or her peer did in 1900? Obviously yes. And this applies to 40 year olds, 60 year olds and 80 year olds.
There has been a huge transfer of wealth to older people thanks to low interest rates and the triple lock. However younger people’s habits are quite different .They will tend to buy a car on pcp ( renting) whereas I would always buy.Older People were used to saving and buying .Younger people tend to debt finance purchases. Finally younger people travel the world at an early age so I’m not sure financial comparisons alone are equitable.
My apologies and my mistake. With all the names flying around with this and something else I am following I got mixed up, yes it was Seth Freedman and not PM who harassed those women.
Sadly, it's not just the BBC and not just the terrestrial broadcasters. Ofcom's sickening DEI edict shapes all streaming services too. Sky are even compelled to hire shouty wimmin to commentate on the footy. I can't just burn my TV as I am addicted to a few programmes (HIGNFY, WILTY, Only Connect, Gogglebox, Taskmaster, Great Pottery Throwdown and Sky Arts…none of which is untainted by DEI).
Yes I have worked hard and have 2 nice houses. Could I buy more gold with them than my grandparents would have by selling Ightam in 1935? I very much doubt it. We may be fiat rich but that just shows the scale of inflation. And you seem to accept that GDP per capita is more material than GDP
