Oil Collapse Leads to Market Plunge

It’s not been a pretty period for the oil price. On Monday (Monday 5 January) ICE Brent Crude Oil fell by a whopping 5.95% to just over 53 dollars a barrel. On Tuesday (Tuesday 6 January) it was down a further 1.05% to 52.50 dollars a barrel. The slide continued yesterday.

Supermarkets To Get Post Christmas Shake Up

Christmas is over. On my weekly visit to supermarkets on Saturday both Morrisons (MRW) and Aldi were noticeably less busy. Morrisons in particular- about four weeks ago there were around double the number of shoppers in store. Huddersfield’s ‘nightlife’ was quieter on Saturday too, significantly. Some clubs didn’t even open.

Call Yourself A Share Investor?

This year I changed my title on LinkedIn to ‘Share Investor’. There was no hiding anymore (even though I had it listed already). This is what I defined myself as. And even if you’re doing another full time job too, I believe it will help you. As a share investor your job is to make the best possible return you can from shares. I personally see my job as a share investor to make as much money as I properly can to invest in more shares as well.

Why Do Some Share Writers Constantly Praise Shares They Don’t Own? Shares are Real, not An Imaginary Game

Right this a more ‘personal’ article than most but it’s something that’s been on my mind for a while. I really don’t understand why some share writers will constantly praise a share... and then not own it. Literally on some sites some writers will write probably hundreds of articles often being in favour of a share, praising it and saying how it is good value, lauding its competitive advantages... and then not own the share. It just makes me wonder.

GSK

Mark Howitt’s share tips of the year No2 – GlaxoSmithKline

After some careful thought I have selected GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) as one of just two of my Prime Share Selections for 2015. Being honest, I find it difficult to pick two which really should be the best of all shares, but I am fairly confident GlaxoSmithKline will perform well in 2015.

HSBA

Mark Howitt’s share tips for 2015 – No 1: HSBC

What first attracted me to HSBC (HSBA) as a tip of the year? The fact that I knew how cold and ruthless it could be. I have a certain amount of ‘inside information’ on this. When you look at HSBC... there is often something quite clinical about it. My sister has a bank account with HSBC... you would be hard pressed to easily find that it pays no interest at all. “This account pays no credit interest” it says in the small print. However, if she went overdrawn she’d be charged around 18% every year.

SBRY

Let’s Have a Look at Sainsbury’s Strategy Part Two

How many stores does Sainsbury’s (SBRY) have? According to its website “We operate over 1,200 stores ranging from convenience formats to supermarkets and mixed use developments. Whilst growing and adapting our floorspace to suit customers and local communities, we are always looking to make our stores more environmentally friendly.” I think it’s interesting to look at the wording of that.

SBRY

Let’s Have a Look at Sainsbury’s Strategy Part One

Sainsbury’s (SBRY) is more upmarket than any of the other ‘Big Four’ supermarkets, Asda, Tesco (TSCO) and Morrisons (MRW). It leaves German upstarts Aldi and Lidl in the dust in terms of the range of products. And if you’re into ‘Fair Trade’ bananas... well it’s the place to go!

Thank you NigelThe US poor jobs numbers in conjunction with the previous 2 months numbers being revised down suggests that we have reached the top of the interest rate cycle. Gold does usually go up over the Christmas period which is promising too. I’m hopeful!!

13th in the best buy table with NESF down 2.1p. Though I would point out the 5.99p dividend paid so far this year with a further 1p to 2p to come from the final dividend. The buy table has some tough numbers. As a Kefi holder I hope to see it climb the table. Though maybe it will be the best buy for next year.

Wow, the guy can certainly talk! Most impressive, the way he really knew his subject, no rifling through notes, umm-ing or ahh-ing.I bought into Uranium Royalty a couple of years back. I'm ahead but not massively but should do well if his predictions are anywhere near correct.
