Supermarkets To Get Post Christmas Shake Up

Christmas is over. On my weekly visit to supermarkets on Saturday both Morrisons (MRW) and Aldi were noticeably less busy. Morrisons in particular- about four weeks ago there were around double the number of shoppers in store. Huddersfield’s ‘nightlife’ was quieter on Saturday too, significantly. Some clubs didn’t even open.

  1. heck as like ……….. people go to night clubs in Huddersfield . I thought it was “ pipe and slippers “ territory in the frozen north .

  2. Wildes

I too was confused by this reference to life in the grim frozen northern post industrial wastelands.

Maybe he means “working men’s clubs” or is it pigeon fanciers clubs? Or perhaps that is what they call soup kitchens and food banks up there?

It is all very baffling, I must catch up on Coronation Street to increase my cultural awareness of how folks live in the welfare safari north of border control at Kenilworth.

    T

  3. I once stayed in Huddersfield when on a training course with work. A few of us decided to venture out in the evening and after one too many ended up being talked in to going to a club. The offer of “£1 entry with a free supper” was far too enticing. When we got in the place was empty and there was a little table in the corner with some packets of scotch eggs and a bowl of coleslaw! Nice! We left pretty quickly.

  4. Cleckhuddersfax, e bye gum, dust tha naw, TOM lad, reet fair old cock, brings back memories.
Should always remember the grim north when considering the waxing lyrical of Cameron’s spun Blighty !!!!!!!.

  5. J P Spaghetti

Eh-up – don’t knock the birthplace of rugby league, and here’s to Harold Wilson (or maybe not) and Patrick Stewart! Once dated a lady from Huddersfield (well Holmfirth). Just thought I’d share that with you.

  6. JP Spaghetti: You had a soft spot for Nora Batty?

  7. When I last saw Patrick Stewart as an usher at Huddersfield University’s Award ceremony he was with a lady about thirty years younger than him… good speaker though. I don’t approve of him supporting Labour!

  8. TOM.
Emmerdale not Corry for that part of the world, Emmerdale where the women have that much attitude, the men have started kissing each other.

  9. Men have been kissing long before Charity Dingle started gurning and throwing her weight around Emmerdale, Grandpopz.

And who in their right mind would turn down a Scotch egg and coleslaw combo? That’s like a 4 course meal in our part of the world! :D

  10. I would certainly recommend having a look at the different types of people shopping in your supermarket… as much as is time efficient really. It’s a useful indication of how well the supermarket doing and what kind of customer they attract.

  11. J P Spaghetti

DISCOSTU: ha,ha – right neck of the woods but wrong gal. Don’t get me wrong, Nora’s a hot enough lass but everyone knows she’s stolen Wilderides’ heart (and I wouldn’t wanna mess with him)!
