I first flagged up this accident waiting to happen almost a year ago. This wine investment company is still luring in new investors with a 3.9* on Trustpilot and the sort of rave reviews that make one blush. It claims to have raised more than a quarter of a billon quid. Its glossy promotions still promise that the market is turning. Yes, the fine wine index is up 0.4% YTD after years of decline but with Cult’s cost base that means folks will still not be making money.
The last published accounts were for the year to December 31 2023. They contain a material uncertainty, show an operating loss of £6 million and net current liabilities up by £5.2 million at £23.7 million. 2024 accounts should have been filed at Companies House by 31 December 2025 but still have not arrived.
Given that the Fine Wine Index fell in both 2024 and 2025 it is hard to see how Cult’s financial position is improved. Vast sums have been thrown at this company but seemingly, as with the Mini-bond providers it is not a regulated entity so may fall between the cracks at the FCA with whom I have flagged thus up again today. Given Cult’s size and the FCA’s remit to protect investors surely somebody should act?
This will end in tears…
