I started boycotting the Co-Op on May 18. I had used it almost every day as it is the only general store in the village in which I live. But I have not darkened its doors once since it signed up to the BDS agenda and stopped selling any Israeli goods, saving money by doing bulk shopping at Tesco in Wrexham instead. Those pushing BDS did not start their campaign the day Israel responded to the October 7 pogrom, they have been pushing it for years, they have always wanted to destroy the only Jewish state.
I will not give a penny to folks who sign up to a BDS agenda which if wholly implemented would allow those who want to finish off Hitler’s work to get their way. The Mrs., who does still use the village Co-Op, was asked about my absence and did explain to the manager who said it was not his decision.
Sure, but acts have consequences. The Co-Op has now made great play about how it is stocking Palestinian beer. So how is it panning out, pandering to the anti-semites?
According to data from WorldPanel, in the 52 weeks to July 31 Co-Op’s market share in groceries and drink has fallen from 4.9% to 4.7%. That means M&S has overtaken it to become the UK’s seventh largest food and drink seller with a 5.1% market share.
Oh dear. Of course, it will be low paid Co-Op workers who suffer in the end as wages are squeezed and jobs lost. The middle class BDS campaigners can still afford to shop at Waitrose. It is always the way. The Co-Op should have remembered that God does not reward anti-semites.
