On Saturday I explained the disgraceful attempt by charlatan snake oil salesman Darren Winters, Win Investing and bully boy lawyers Hamlins to gag me and stop me appearing as an expert witness for someone mugged by Win Investing and published the fascist letter received HERE. Today I have replied. My response is:

Mr Contrarian – link took me to the main site and not his page but I got there by simply using its search facility. Anyway, he looks like a yeti hunter from some Oregon or Washington state backwater (sorry Michael but you really are batting for the bad guys here).

I get bombarded with emails from UK and US based companies offering investment courses. I paid approximately £1200 to take part in a two day course which covered the basics right up to trading derivatives. Over the past year I have found all the ‘course’ information and much more to a higher level free of charge on the internet. My belief is that there is no investment education ‘course’ that can come anywhere near matching the free articles available on sites like investopedia seeking alpha etc and of course shareprophets to help avoid the debacle of the AIM. The people offering investment education at a high price would have us believe they have made millions from investing and share a common desire for all their pupils to become as well off as they claim to be but I just dont believe them anymore.

Looks like things are hotting up! Good for you Tom – this chap Winters does indeed seem a total charlatan, and seems to have relieved a lot of gullible people of their money, for over-priced, yet quite basic courses. On the one hand you think, more fool them. On the other, it would be great to see a charlatan have to prove his supposed success in Court.
Golden rule in life – if there is a high pressure, too-good-to-be-true sales pitch involved, from a very personally engaging individual, it will ALWAYS end badly! True investing masters, from Warren Buffett, down to many of the people in my contacts list, are happy to share their wisdom free of charge. People who want you to pay substantial sums (i.e. thousands of pounds) for courses are nearly always partial, or total, charlatans.

By the way, is he the prat who recorded an advertising promo. whilst piloting a helicopter (as if doing so is somehow indicative of the effectiveness of his course(s)!)?

This is what makes ShareProphets the clear defender of the private investor. Go TOM! Again if you need some help in court costs I am happy to donate a wee amount for this case.
The only paid course that I have been on is Robbie Burns (Naked Trader). He was quite expensive £700 (at the time)but yet I did learn a lot from him. He didn’t once claim to make us all rich.. just how to be careful and some useful insights into his trading ideas. Giving that he provided us to a large dinner, chocolate pancakes at break down etc.. the price was reasonable.
Sorry this was not meant to be an advert for Robbie, just an example of a course that ‘may’ be worth going to, but even then his book is a great start to investing!
Plus there is Sharesoc Masterclasses, UK Investor shows, Mello Events all providing great education and networking opportunities for very small fees
Plus Paul Scott (Stockopedia), Phil Oakley (Sharescope), Ed Croft (Stockopedia) amongst many others all providing great educational material that no one needs to go near Darren Winters rip off classes..

How refreshing to see someone as busy as Tom is to make time to pick up the gauntlet for a humble Northerner. Few Southern softies would have give a Northerner the time of day, let alone sort the passport out and arrange a jab. In all seriousness, my heart gladdens when I see goodwill of this nature knowing full well the focus may well be turned on himself, even though its a foolish strategic error by clumsy, foolish charlatan Winters.
