Malcolm you’re in the minority wanting even more immigration. Deal with the ridiculous, unsustainable current levels of migration (net 330k, gross c600k) pa and there’d be greater willingness to accommodate genuine refugees prepared to integrate. The UK is creaking at the seams, NHS struggling, inadequate school places and housing going through the roof to the point our own kids can neither afford to rent or buy nor get a job with decent wages.
Living in a London borough I feel like a foreigner in my country with the English language a rarity on the streets. It pisses me off when, usually the well off from the comfort of their feathered nests, say let more in. Try being a young school/college/university leaver since the crash ~ huge tuition debt, low (minimum wage) paid, few job prospects, no chance of a decent home unless born with a silver spoon in your mouth, real issues affording a family unless you’re leaching of the state… the list goes on.
The government should be looking after their own people before splashing foreign aid (effectively compulsory charity giving by taxpayers) as if it grows on a money tree. The same day Cameron announced the first extra £100m for refugees occurred on the same day the range of cancer drugs was cut for British patients because of a projected overspend of roughly the same amount…wtf… so let British people die to spend more on those already displaced to safe non-EU countries whilst rest of world keep their wallets closed? Two thirds of the monies pledged by the world to the UN camps hasn’t been paid ~ the UK has, let the others honour their pledges.
We should be doing nothing for those illegally entering the EU we should be forcibly repatriating them so they get the message ~ apply properly, economic migrants wont be accepted unless they have key skills, if you choose to drown yourselves and be trafficked then don’t expect the EU to pick up the pieces. Cameron at least got one thing right.. accept only the most needy migrants from the refugee camps.
Last point ~ when Europe faced threats to democracy in the great wars young men (& women) stood, fought and died for their homeland/freedom. The current tidal wave of migrants are mainly young Arabs running from their conflict… what a contrast.

330k pa equates to a new Coventry or Cardiff being built each year to accommodate with all the associated infrastructure/services. Older people want new blood to pay their pensions but it’s just a giant ponzi scheme as everybody ages so more new arrivals needed in ever greater numbers.

I’ve read your piece about refugees carefully and I’m sure you are a nice man and mean well, but I think you should stick to tipping shares. I just hope more logical thought and proper research goes into those share tips. I’m wondering now if anyone will take any of your tips seriously after reading your ideas on this subject which are so obviously flawed.

Like it or not – UK needs more young blood to support ageing population. Its our own fault for not having as many kids as previous generations. Germany has already woken up and smelled the TCP. They offer free university education to foreigners in the hope they’ll settle in the country. Now they welcoming hoards of refugees, particularly those with skills.
UK workers are too lazy to work hard to support more children and think they are too good to drive buses and wait on tables or pick vegetables. Why do you think you can buy carrots for 10p a pound? Hard working immigrants.

Shortages in trades tend to increase wages which send price signals which encourage people to borrow money so they can get educated , trained and skilled to satisfy the shortage .
What point is there in Britons taking on debt to invest in themselves if the authorities are just going to fast track admissions for cheap labour from abroad ?
What happens to the price signals then ?
The UK is overwhelmingly a net importer of food and fuel and everyone who comes here makes the problems worse . What services and products are we going to have to send the other way in 50 years time to offset our burgeoning population .
By the end of this century the UK will have over 100 million people .
How many people are prepared to let migrants live indefinitely in their spare room or to transfer to them their entitlements to future state pensions ?

I think your wrong on this Malcolm . I would let in all the women and children and men over fighting age . All men of fighting age should be sent back to help the Kurds fight ISIS . The Kurds are appealing on social media for fighters to help them defeat ISIS . They have the training camps and arms but need MEN . They are so short of men to fight that their own Kurdish women are now armed and fighting on the front line . Some of these women have been shot up to six times , recovered from their wounds and gone back to fight again . If you look at the TV footage many of the refugees are young men of fighting age , in fact the majority are. They are by all accounts ,well fed , look heathy and fit with good clothing . They have a country of their own to reclaim and defend . Only the Kurds are trying to do that . The French resistance did not flee France in WW2 . They stayed and fought the NAZI making a massive contribution . We Brits would never flee our homeland to get away from invaders of our Island . We would fight to the last man . It is not in a mans nature to give up like this . Thus I say to you that many of these young men fleeing are really economic migrants who just want a better life in the West. They are using the momentum created by some genuine refugee’s to get into the West . It is very regrettable that they are leaving behind Kurdish women to do their fighting of ISIS for them . There are several dozen (unpaid) British mercenaries fighting along side the Kurdish women at this moment , because they could not sit on their sofa’s back in Blighty and watch the Kurds take a beating fighting ISIS on their own on the ground .Mean while everyone else is running for Europe or dropping bombs remotely from drones . Its an enigma to see the capitulation going on . These young men should return and fight to recover their homelands from ISIS .

Total nonsense, not backed up by any stats or evidence. That said, the west helped caused these problems, and we have a clear moral obligation to help. So yes all countries, including UK, need to take a fair share of these refugees.

UK parliament actually voted against military action in Syria although it’s clear they wanted Assad out. The biggest players in the region are Iran, Saudi & Qatar so how many refugees are they taking exactly? More to the point it was millions of Syrians who rose up in demonstrations against the regime.. where exactly is their responsibility to stand and fight for what they were demanding? At least the Kurds showed some backbone and their areas are relatively stable. The UK has no moral responsibility at all beyond what we’ve already done / promised ~ £1bn in aid, some help against IS and thousands of the most vulnerable Syrians accepted.

I agree largely with Wildes (again) given the distinction he makes between men of fighting age and those who are old, women and children. The analogy with the French resistance seems entirely valid, and – alas – I feel there is much truth in his assertion that “They are using the momentum created by some genuine refugee’s to get into the West”. What about the plight of those left behind who in a sense have been abandoned by those with the wherewithal (including youth) to flee? That’s the flip side.

I cannot help putting my 2p in the discussion, and largely agree with most of the comments here, especially Jason’s. I entirely endorse his comments, especially when he questions why do these refugee choose to go to northern Europe when they could more easily flee to other nearby Arab countries, where they would also fit better in terms of religion, climate, language, habits, diet, traditions etc. The fact that they could fight IS instead of flooding Europe is a good point, but not everyone is willing to die for their country, you cannot expect everyone to be a hero. There may be a case also for lack of support, or faith, to win the fight against IS. Certainly the majority of able men should stay back and fight rather than flee, but then how do we know how many are doing that as opposed to these escapists? Maybe for every 1,000 that run away there are another 10,000 who stay back and fight, we don’t just don’t know.
Although I have seen plenty of women, children and older people, which I perfectly understand would want to flee a war zone, I have also seen plenty of younger men whom I can’t help suspect are just shrewd low-lives who took the opportunity of riding with the flow for an easy way in…

Would you agree that the interference in the politics of the Near East by the United Kingdom, France and latterly the USA have proven an unmitigated disaster?
The Jewish and Arab peoples have suffered beyond all comprehension as the Western Democracies have promoted policies of outrageous arrogance in a bid to divide and conqueror, this justified, by, its in our ‘national interest’. This history has culminated, in my opinion with the present situation regarding the refugee’s fleeing to the West. Our actions are responsible for the disastrous destabilisation of this entire region and ruination of tens of millions of lives!
Gordon Brown announced on 15th June 2009 the Chilcot Enquiry.
Inquiry’s Terms of Reference:“Our terms of reference are very broad, but the essential points, as set out by the Prime Minister and agreed by the House of Commons, are that this is an Inquiry by a committee of Privy Counsellors. It will consider the period from the summer of 2001 to the end of July 2009, embracing the run-up to the conflict in Iraq, the military action and its aftermath. We will therefore be considering the UK’s involvement in Iraq, including the way decisions were made and actions taken, to establish, as accurately as possible, what happened and to identify the lessons that can be learned.”
Malcolm……. why on earth hasn’t this enquiry reported, yet? Is it being suppressed? Will the multi-millionaire Blair ever be faced with answering for his actions, before an International Court of Law?
Its time for those politicians that promoted the policies that have led to today’s present disaster stepped up to the plate…… questions need to be answered!
