RSA Shares May Be Worth Hanging Onto Even if the Much-Vaunted Take-Over Falls at the Last Hurdle

Hello, Share Scoopers. My long-standing investment in RSA Insurance Group (RSA) has seen some nasty disappointments over the years. There was that time when a big take-over offer for the giant insurer came to naught, wiping out a fistful of paper profits. And now the company is involved in another potential merger. The shares have jumped accordingly, but my dilemma is whether to sell in case the present offer falls through.

RSA shareholders should bite the hand off the cash bid

When Malcolm wrote here back in late February that 'the world has never been so precarious, making big insurance companies even more essential', none of us would have expected the events of the last eight or nine months.  Anyhow, I hope Malcolm held onto the Royal & Sun Alliance (RSA) shares he loved up in that article, as the late Thursday bid for the company at 685p in cash by a consortium of the Canadian insurer Intact Financial and the Danish insurer Tryg gives all shareholders the nicest of decisions.

Why Big Insurers Like This Shouldn't Suffer Because of the Pestilence

Hello, Share Smoothies. Well, it’s a hard act to follow. I refer to the amazingly successful online share show this wonderful site hosted on Saturday. Pity any analyst that has to think of an idea that was not given a thorough look-over at that share-packed event. Especially as the long list of speakers was the best the UK can offer. But allow me to highlight a larger company which I don't think was mentioned. Though it's been impossible to take it all in as yet...

Profits Rise for this Giant Insurer In a More Hostile World

Hello, Share Sizzlers. You might think insurance companies aren’t such a good bet these days. What with stronger hurricanes, floods and the new virus. But wind and floods cause a rush of worried new customers while people seek more travel protection in case they’re forced to cancel their plans. So the outlook for RSA Insurance Group (RSA), formerly Royal Insurance, is possibly even more positive than the encouraging set of full-year results it’s just published...

As the World Gets Scarier, You Might Want to Consider this Great Protector

Hello Share Takers. I have holdings in two big British insurance companies. Both have share prices presently doing better than most other Footsie jumbos. Legal & General (LGEN) is the better bet from the p/e point of view - at only 8.9x. The other choice RSA Insurance Group (RSA), the old Royal Insurance company, has a p/e of 17.3. Never mind, the City is pleased with RSA’s progress...

Big Insurer RSA Sells more Premiums as Divi Rises and Claims Fall

Hello, Share Squeezers. The insurance sector has been static as of late, after a few months of steady progress earlier. It’s those Brexit fears and the low pound that’s to blame, just as it is with banking stocks which are similarly mired. But one of the big companies, RSA Insurance Group (RSA) - the old Royal Insurance Company - has just released numbers which are encouraging...

Step-Carefully-Stephen Helps Another Member of the Royal Family

Hello, Share Smashers. Regret lasts a long time in Shareland and I still kick myself for sitting tight when RSA (RSA) was about to be taken over by Zurich four years ago. I should have sold before the deal (and the share price) crashed to the deck. Never mind, the share price has since been gradually recovering and I am still well into profit on paper...

RSA

No!, You Do Not Have Permission to Panic, Corporal Jones. Ref: Brexit

Hello Share Flexers. Well, that was turn-up and no mistake. Did anyone really expect us to leave Europe? Certainly not the bookies. They are rarely wrong in political matters, but they were this time. The odds started out very favourably to Brexit punters, then shortened, but on the eve of the big vote, Paddy Power was offering 8 to 1 on for remaining and five to one against leaving. Boy did they get it wrong!

RSA

Calling All Divi Hunters. Insure that You Look at RSA.

Hello Share Shoppers. If you’re a regular reader of this delectable website you’ll know that I like to keep an eye on RSA (RSA) the old Royal Insurance set-up. Time for an update, I fancy. You may recall there was a nasty shock for long-time shareholders like me when an offer from Zurich insurance was withdrawn last year.

RSA

Big Profit Explosion Could Send RSA Shares Even Higher.

Hello Share Shufflers. Well, that was a nice surprise in these dismal times. The old Royal Insurance company, combined with the Alliance. has had a difficult few years. But the latest results from RSA (RSA)showed a sparkling improvement. And the shares rose 12%, which is exceptional for a Footsie giant.

amount owed to taxman rose from 319k at 30/6/24 to 861 a year later. Given how it has now defaulted on payment plan I think my guess that it is a 7 figure sum is an educated onei agree suspension is subjective. But TM1 would not itself go bust if recyclus did so it is not a pending clarification of ITS final position time yet.

MNTL puts out a RNS using the Adam Reynolds keyboard which you think covers an outstanding winding up petition for "a seven figure sum" (your guess) that it can give no certainty it will see off via an external funder.... and yet you don't believe the shares should be suspended pending clarification of the company's financial position?Whatever you say. You've called for suspension elsewhere over much less.

JRB is ok but personally not the best, to me at least. There are others such as Andrew Maguire, Peter Schiff, Alasdair Macleod who I think have a much clearer view of what is going on, and explain it in a fare more concise way.Sometimes it's not all about charts, but fundamentals. The charts may look bearish for both gold and silver currently in the short term, but if the fundamentals come to the fore with what is actually happening out there, runaway US and world debt, sticky inflation, rising bond yields (they are bullish for gold contrary to popular opinion) and general world disorder, along with two wars, plus the fact that gold and silver miners themselves are throwing off record amounts of cash, it beggars belief that both PM's and the miners will not eventually go on a very bullish run.

I will not argue with your first statement. for the evidence is clear. Yes of course cash spent on capex cannot be used to pay a div but as it moves thru cashflow statement not P&L it does not affect retained earnings. So if AMRQ makes a $200m profit in the 18 months to dec 27 (it could spend $150m on building BA and still pay a div with spare cash and as it would then have retained earnings of $97m. I was only suggesting a nominal 1p per share to start with (so a cost of $6m)

Well, I am a moron then because I assumed the folding cash for asset capex would come out of actual profits in a rush over a couple of years maybe. However it is presented on paper, I thought the actual cash would diminish rapidly leaving less to distribute to shareholders.

Of course they will but you are confusing P&L and cashflow statement. capex is on the latter. so let us say between july 1 2026 and end 2027 PTP is $200m. $100m can go on capex on building BA mine. that capex is then depreciated over 15 years or whatever LOM is in 2028 onwards P&L but is not a hit on 2027 P&L so does not affect retained earnings
