Ashtead (AHT) offers rental opportunities in “a full range of construction and industrial equipment across a wide variety of applications to a diverse customer base”. I can remember about twenty years ago, when I used to sit opposite someone who was convinced that it would go bust but it avoided that, and the-then sub 10p share price hit over a sixty quid level a couple of years ago. Sadly, I was never clever enough to get involved in the stock during the glory years, but that also means I have no exposure when it announces a bit of a mixed update this morning…
A little bit over three years ago, I observed that Ashtead Group (AHT) is “still a geared play on US economy Inc”. And because I am only smart enough to follow some of my own insights, I failed to capture the rise from the sub twenty quid share price then to about a 5400p level today. Naturally though, the share price has been somewhat more volatile over the last eighteen months as the Federal Reserve raised interest rates and the average American economic thinker has had to worry about the impact of this.
Hello Share Fans. Over the years the big tool-renter Ashtead Group (AHT) has been a big money spinner for me. Though a few years ago, I took the view that what goes up usually always comes down. So I sold the lot. Needless to say, that folly sparked yet another rally. I’m still shy of the shares, though. For the same reason: that good things don’t last forever. However, the firm’s latest numbers look to prove me wrong yet again.
It has been a stockmarket darling for years but plant hire group Ashtead (AHT) is a short at a current 4230p share price, around £19 billion market cap, and here is why.
Hello Share People. You might imagine an outfit that supplies the building trade might have had a hard time of it. What with lockdowns, rising material costs and supply problems. But Ashtead Group (AHT) has bucked the trend.
Hello Share Fanciers. It’s amazing the way some companies are now making more money than before covid first struck. One such lucky outfit is Ashtead Group (AHT), the Footsie giant that loans out building tools. This company is an irritation to me. At one stage I was so amazed at the energy of a rising share price that I thought it just couldn't go on. And so, after holding for ten years or so, I sold the lot. You can guess what happened next...
