So supermarkets have been in the news a lot lately, with Tesco (TSCO) slashing its dividend by 75%. All of the supermarket shares took a battering on Friday, with worries that Tesco’s rivals could also cut their dividends. Just on an instinctive feel, I don’t think Sainsbury (SBRY) will cut its but I do feel it may be effected when Tesco start to cut prices- it will probably have to follow suit to an extent.

A well written article, interesting and I agree with your sentiments.
Just an illustration on my experience with Tesco.
As my nearest supermarket, I do most of my weekly shop there and what a dreadful uninspiring experience, it is! Nine times out of ten, my visit ends with me in a filthy mood making a run to the exit.
Contrast, with the Tesco’s that I sometimes shop at when visiting my son. What a joy! Neat, well lit, well stacked shelves, clean and most importantly, polite enthusiastic helpful staff. I actually leave with a smile on my face!
My opinion, Tesco have far too many stores offering the negative shopping experience and hence customers are voting with their wallets.
Tesco have a lot to prove before I would contemplate becoming a shareholder.
