Shahruck Khan, entrepreneurial chief executive officer of Oracle Coalfields (ORCP), says he is now ‘working towards financial closure’ for the company’s $1.5 billion (974 million) project to develop a potential 1.4billion-tonne lignite (brown coal) mine and 600-megawatt power station in south-eastern Pakistan, following a key consortium agreement with Shandong Electric Power Corporation (SEPCO) of China.

Of course, India is facing a massive projected shortfall in domestically produced coal over the next couple of decades. Given how much they do extract that may sound absurd but apparently it’s not.
By the way, did you hear the one about the coal powered supersonic jet designed by Lippisch for the Luftwaffe towards the end of WWII that easily exceeded Mach 2 in wind tunnel tests?! I jest not. I think most have been too quick to write off the inky black energy elixir, especially with the available filtering and scrubbing techniques to tackle pollution…
