A pot pouri of a podcast today starting with the pronounciation pedant, the great Paul Scott. Then onto a cracking Zero Hedge article on how we should have treated the banksters in 2008 - we should have followed Iceland. Then on to Greece, Octagonal, Trap Oil, Nyota, Sefton, Afren, Alba Minerals, Monitise, Power Capital Global and Windar Photonics

I’m sure Zak would help you with your pronunciation if you asked him nicely.

really? we should have treated the EU/US bankster crims like Iceland? population of EU is 500 million plus, population of US is 300 million plus, population of Iceland is about 330 thousand… yes I’d like to have seen the bankster fraudsters banged up for life, but my strong preference was not to be shot and eaten by cannibals, which would’ve been the end game if Obama/Brown had just let the entire global banking system collapse in 2008!

Um….one of the reasons the grim north is so welfare dependent is that someone shut down their industry and put them all out of work. I suspect that sending the riot police in again might not help the situation. It’s a fascinating bit of british history though and if you ever get the chance to see ‘Still the enemy within’ I reccommend it. It covers The battle of Orgreave and indeed the whole war. Be warned though. It’s full of northerners.

Afren looks like another case of shareholder activism that is going to end up losing PIs who got involved even more money. Rather than doing the sensible thing and selling, some PIs have been buying more so they can pledge through ASOG to vote No.
I applaud ASOG in many ways, they have got themselves fairly well organized fairly quickly – it is a sad fact of life that the only time when you can get PIs to stand together against the company is when it is already totally Donald Ducked. They seem to have got the BOD to at least give them an audience and on the face of it the deal for shareholders has improved (under the surface I think it has got worse as the Open Offer looks at the moment to be a 1 for 1 at 4.7p which won’t get any subscription and will now leave PIs even more diluted than they would have been under the original scheme (they will have 7.5% of the company if they don’t subscribe))
Perhaps if you get bored during your sabbatical you could look at whether the Churchillian fight them on the beaches style of activism is ever a good move or whether it is always better to just sell and forget or if you want to make a point sell all but one and use that one to make a pain in the arse of yourself.

You mention GIS UK / Worthington Group relationship. What’s the connection and what happened to the background and emails you mentioned you were going to share before? Maybe time for Werthers update / summary / review No. 21 when you pull those out.
