The companies drilling Horse Hill, the so called Gatwick Gusher, have claimed that the oil that has flowed has flowed with minimal stimulation. But perhaps Steve Sanderson of UK Oil & Gas (UKOG) - a proven liar - might clarify what minimal means given evidence emerging from local residents.

If the smells are due to bacterial contamination , then wouldn’t it be more likely that the contamination happened during drilling ?
Given that operators even have to get separate permission before flow testing , from people who do nothing and try to prevent others going about their business , doesn’t the time lag this introduces increase the chances of contamination ?

Hydrogen Sulphide has a very distinctive smell – Rotten Eggs. It is what is produced by stink bombs. It is harmful in very high concentrations and you cannot actually smell it then because it burns away the sensors in your nasal passage, but in relatively low concentrations it is just annoying (and quite amusing for the person who lets one off then runs away – yes I had an interesting childhood, I was a complete pain in the arse then as I remain now). For such high concentrations to have been present in the next field, means that anyone closer would be dead. There is a proportionality of concentration to distance to the power of 3 involved here.
The tree huggers and brave police woman in the previous video described it a “gas smell”. If it was Hydrogen Sulphide then they would both have said rotten egg smell.
Something does not smell right here. Can anyone advise what smells are given off by an over stimulated oil well. 2 + 2 may be being made to equal 15 here, with all the different people who are smelling different things at different intensities with different vested interests in mounting a negative campaign against Horse Hill.
There have been many valid points raised regarding the valuation of what is most probably a boarder-line commercial prospect raised on this website. There have been many valid points also raised regarding future well permissions at other sites in the area that would be needed to turn Surrey into Ghawar. Seizing on things that do not smell right, devalues those valid points and hands ammunition to the rampers who need to get placings away.

It is quite possible that H2S has been produced by the reservoir in which case suitable precautions would have to have been put in place as proscribed by regulations. I have severe doubts about the example of the resident affected by fumes -if it was that severe she would be dead by now! Seizing on things that do not smell right actually hands ammunition to the derampers. Considering the bile attributed by TW to DL may well deprive investors of access to what may be a considerable UK asset.. Bring on the placing – I’m definitely in.

The only smell being detected is the one caused by Winning Froth launching floaters of huge proportion on the subject of smells detected by vested interests.
Seldom or never in the history of mankind have two men so effectively reduced themselves from “ highly regarded in their field” to objects of mirth and derision than Winny and Del Boy have managed to do over their Lennigas Vendetta . Quite remarkable what too previously completely sane individuals can decend too when pride comes before a fall .
Its probably just a farmer emptying his slurry lagoon upwind of the site .
