Free Speech Deniers – UK Oil & Gas, you guys are such fools

My attention is drawn to the LSE Asylum, UK Oil & Gas (UKOG) thread where the free speech jihadists are in full flow after Monday night’s BBC programme.

Just register with LSE with a throw away email addy & then report the abusive posts. LSE will remove just about anything reported, particularly if it is abusive & 99% of comments to do with you are at the upper end of the vile abuse scale. Of course, anyone can register & report posts :)

A fringe benefit is it really frustrates & pisses off the BBMs when they see their posts have been binned!

  2. A sad reflection on them? Maybe. But you do yourself no favors by referring to posters as council house dwellers on welfare and numerous other diatribes. Quid pro quo?

  3. J P Spaghetti

Scum like that are truly beneath contempt. And I’m mad at myself for having missed the programme! BBC iPlayer?

  4. I recommend readers do read Toms account on his blog ( linked above ) and his uncles Daily Mail article ( linked from the blog article ) Both are moving and insightful . Mental health issues are much more common than one would imagine and so one can be assured that all these people trolling on the UKOG site will have instances in their own family tree of this affliction .
Indeed ……. my own mother was hospitalised with Post Natal twice and my father committed suicide when I was in my twenties . These things happen . We can never begin to second guess what caused the tipping point to be reached for any individual …….. we do not walk in their shoes and we should not judge …….ever ……… when such event takes place . My mother recovered fully and lived a full and happy life into her eighties . I think most people have an episode or period in their life which causes a depression . It is really just a matter of chance whether or not events conspire one on top of another to reach a tipping point where upon an individual decides they cannot carry on . We who have not had to endure this chance event of multiple things going awry at the same time in life are truly blessed and we should count those blessings and not judge others who are not so fortunate.

  5. Russ O'Callaghan

I think the reason so many of them do this on lots of websites, with scores of iffy companies is because (if they are to be believed) some of them have absolutely eye-watering sums of money invested in these tin-pot little outfits that inhabit the borderlands of AIMS. It’s an on-line attempt to defend their portfolio in the face of the inevitable. You regularly read of people who have (allegedly at any rate) a hundred, two hundred…more (!) thousand quidsworth in stocks that always were a gamble at best.
Perhaps this really is just pin-money to many of them, but I doubt it. Some of them must be looking total ruin squarely in the eyes and are doing all they can to prevent it; even writing stuff that normally they wouldn’t dream of posting up.
The real villains in all this are, as you constantly say, the so-called AIMS regulators who let these crazy boiler-room efforts get so far before harsh reality crashes in.
Not an excuse, Tom. I’m not offering that as an excuse, I cannot do that. Just some attempt to try to explain their unsavoury behaviour.

When in the grim north I shelter from the hoodies and benefit claimants in a very run down council house and peek through broken windows at the welfare safari participants as they wade through the raw sewage and rat infested back alleys as they scavenge for scrap metal, sometimes eye to eye contact is made, I am probably ‘one of them’ and even thrive in this hostile environment which would severely traumatise any posh visitor from south of the Watford gap. Try as I may I cannot take offence at the caricatures imagined by TW, you would need to have been born and bred in Belgium rather than the grim north to be not amused ?

If you believe in free speech as I do you allow these fools to post. It reflects on them not me.

Neil if someone abuses me on twitter I abuse back. There are however certain things one would not say – there is a borderline.

    Others – thank you

  8. I agree what they said is despicable. My point is, why respond? Set your borderline at the bottom.
For PIs like me, sites like this are great for doing my own research, but filtering through the personal abuse to get to the useful stuff detracts from the site as whole.
