Two bad things today. West Ham kick off what is bound to be another season of Premiership disaster and more importantly my cat Tara seems to be very sick. Seeking distraction I read the Sunday financial press and feel disgusted, a sense of being made nauseous by the stench of corruption everywhere. Afren, Quindell, the financial press, it is tempting just to give up on shares. Is not the whole game rigged by the crony capitalists? It is not. But a lot of it is as I explain in this podcast. I end by explaining why my emails will go unanswered for days and twitter ignored almost completely for the next seven weeks. I have an urgent deadline.

I hear your concerns re:Quindell and the lack of negative coverage by them and across the national press. They dropped the ball there.
However I think you are being too harsh, John Ficenec is a superb tipster and very good analyst, although somebody amusingly posted on Twitter how he is getting a bit cocky about how good his tips are which was rather amusing . Plus on the header of the http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/ page where you see the 4 mugshots there have been some truly superb bearish articles pointing at the dangers in this current market over the last year or so. They are the most bearish of the mainstream press I have seen and some of the featured articles are certainly against the tide.

Tom’s comment about meddling with capitalism in the context of US moves to limit the salaries of managers at the helm reminded me of that clearly honourable CEO in said nation whose introduction of a minimum wage of about $50k (can’t remember the exact figure) was reported to have backfired a few days ago. Seems it was met with disfavour by certain rather craven (in the sense of being mean-spirited – watching Countryfile as I type) relatively senior employees who considered it tantamount to socialism (heaven forbid!), and who objected to the pay of more ‘lowly’ personnel approaching theirs. I wish the proponents of this well but suspect they really will have their work cut out in that part of the world…

I sincerely hope that this is the last we see/hear from you for a lengthy while – although banging out 45k words to a deadline doesn’t sound like a sinecure. If you are self-publishing do get a qualified eye to fix the syntax/typo errors.
Don’t worry about anything. Especially don’t worry about rising interest rates since history tells us that the FTSE usually goes up in sync with interest rates:

That chart doesn’t take into account the trillions of funny money pumped into the economy globally, never seen before on this scale. Surely that distorts that graph?

MRMOTO, QE wouldn’t have affected those historical figures. And was it last October that the Yanks ended their QE program…since when the DJ has risen?
The fundamental justification for increasing interest rates is that the economy is growing. If businesses are doing well, their share price tends to rise.
