To recap: 61% of Greeks voted Oxi (no) to a nasty bailout package last Sunday. Treacherous PM Alex "Ephialtes" Tsipras then ignored their wishes and proposed an even worse deal which 79% of Greeks oppose, according to a poll out today. And in Brussels just now it seems that Greece has agreed to an even worse package than the second Ephialtes deal which it will start implementing next week in order to get a bailout. But even this most brutal of rogerings and abject humiliations for Greece may not save it.

Wonderful ………after 7 years of can kicking, and no real attempt to sort themselves out in regards to living within their means, the Greeks are finally having to get humble and take the medicine . It is great to see they are not going to get away with endless wriggling and prevarication that has wasted millions of productive hours of European governance which could have been spent on more productive matters. The pill is going to be bitter , and it needs to be . Seldom or never , in modern times, has a western nation been so petulant and selfish . Expecting the rest of Europe to pay for its citizens to retire at 52 is perhaps the poster boy of the most selfish and inward looking , navel gazing ever witnessed on a political stage . Victory of the meek and the prudent is upon us gentlemen ……… and long may it continue.

The ONLY reason any Greeks are ready to keep paying the massive debts and accept austerity is because they want to stay in the Euro. And Merkel’s offer is ‘pay the debts and be kicked out of the Euro as well’. Is the Greek government really going to accept that?!
