The development of Mosman Oil & Gas (MSMN) is fascinating to watch. The company has executed an extremely well defined strategy, almost flawlessly. Since listing in March, the directors have taken the company’s share price from 8p to an intraday high of 56p. They have achieved this without announcing commercial discoveries of oil and without telling any lies. This high wire act is very impressive.

Afternoon Ben,
I’m sensing you’re starting to like this company!
A while ago I asked if it was plausible that Mosman were playing their cards close to their chest in light of the current bids in NZ. These close next month. What’s your view on this now given how the BOD have played the last few months?
wildrides
great piece on what seems to me to be the QPP of oil minors . My bet is the flow tests will be shite …….. flowing like treacle in the Antarctic.

It doesn’t take a genius to work out that there’s a running theme to the mosman articles on Shareprophets. What I can’t figure out is why?
You say that the SP will go higher in the next month. So, by that rationale the people buying now, if they’re smart, won’t lose out. Similarly, the people who bought in at the IPO price or just above are already way in the green, so they aren’t losing out. Who exactly is getting the raw deal here? The people who buy on a 52-week high and lose 10%? The people who see the price rocketing and jump in without doing any research?
You say mosman is overvalued. I completely agree. But isn’t it the case that 99% of the shares on AIM are hideously over or undervalued? It’s a snarling, volatile, sentiment-driven monster, and the share price in the vast majority of AIM-listed stocks is rarely an accurate reflection of the company’s worth.
Out of curiosity, what do you think is a fair value for mosman oil and gas? I assume you have a figure in mind.
You’ve clearly done your research and as a mosman stock holder I always read your articles and digest the information. But I get the overriding sense that there’s an agenda here and this whole thing is just another example of the whole ‘f**k you to the LSE rampers’ tirade you seem to be so obsessed with.
You’re clearly a serious guy with serious opinions. If you want to be taken seriously, stop talking about internet forum boards and unicorns. The facts will do just fine thanks.

@Sean – :-) I honestly don’t know yet. Let’s wait and see what happens over the next month or so.
Re. playing cards close to their chest, I’d be surprised if that were the case. I can’t see any reason for delaying announcing a commercial oil discovery. As things stand, we just need to accept the plan is to drill Crestal-2, then do the flow tests. It is certainly one possibility that they are confident of the commercial viability of the 3 wells together and that is why they have decided to wait for the flow tests. We will find out in due course.
@wildrides I think that is a little harsh, but we’ll see. The proposed asset purchases since the discovery announcements have caught my attention and I do wonder if those were the primary goal in the first place. Let’s see.
@Indigo – I hope you see the irony in questioning my being taken seriously when you have posted under the name “Indigo Jones”!!! :-)
Fair value for Mosman is a very interesting question. Perhaps a better question is at what point might I consider buying. It’s a tough one to answer. As I just said to wild rides, the asset purchases are the ones to watch. If you’ve done any research into the background of them, you will know what I mean. What I can’t decide is whether or not this is a genuine attempt at building a business committed to shareholder returns or it is just another Antipodean paper pushing enterprise.
The manner of the “discovery” announcements suggests the latter, but if the board uses the money raised properly they could prove it is the former.
If the flow tests disappoint, the official response from the company will be telling and I think at that point we will all know what the company is about.
If they don’t disappoint, then there could still be plenty of upside.
As for your argument to the effect “this is just AIM” that is a lazy view, which I reject entirely.
