Our very own ChrisOil met up earlier this week with a leading fund manager with a penchant for oil stocks in his small cap portfolio…this guy does not hold back. Chris writes:

To Shareprophets: it’s time to put a stop to this farce. Chrisoil is a Walter Mitty, and an unpleasant one at that. He is notorious for a host of things: some funny—his claim that he was dining at the Savoy, when in fact it was closed for refurbishment—and some less so—telling someone on the boards who had the big C that he wanted her to die. He’s claimed to have made millions from Encore, being friends with Richard Branson and the Phipps, living in a castle, and loads more utter nonsense besides.
He’s posted on the bulletin boards under numerous names, and been banned numerous times. Indeed, he is on ADVFN right now having conversations with himself (as Undervalued companies and Christoil twitter), praising his own posts using alternative names.
The reason he dislikes Rockhopper is because he was thrown off the bulletin board for abusive behaviour.

I would bet strongly that he has made this whole story up, frankly. You discredit your website posting his ravings.

Sorry, but this article is just not credible in any way (and I’m bullish on FOGL).
I understand wanting to publish as wide a range of views as possible, but does nobody proof-read beforehand? This is obvious fantasy.

Shareprophets, think about what you’re doing. Chrisoil is known across three different bulletin boards for being a total charlatan; he comes up with the most ridiculous whoppers. And then you publish an article of his alleged chat with a fund manager. Did you notice that the language of the fund manager almost exactly matches Chris’s own articles? for example, “loon” and “hysteria”—both terms prominent in his earlier article “Rockhopper Exploration, hype, hysteria and the Falklands”.
And what about the broker allegedly saying “I know that you have been in touch with Tim”. Why would any unnamed broker say that? As I said, it is highly likely that Chris is interviewing himself; it’s all self-promotion. You are destroying your own brand using articles from this guy, unless of course you condone this kind of thing.
