Hello Share Badgers. I like tv companies these days because the army of couch potatoes is on the march. It seems to me that many people are becoming addicted to the box in the corner and it is getting worse. You only have to trawl through the huge list of British channels now on offer to realise that the national appetite for rubbish is amazingly strong.

Not sure about that, Malcolm. Sky has been built on football but it has lost a lot of Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup matches to competitors such as BT Sports. Increasing numbers of fans will be deciding that it’s cheaper to go to the pub to watch than to subscribe to both Sky and BT Sports. Also, with the footy season ending in a month or so, now is the peak period for fans to start cancelling their subscriptions.
This loss of key content hasn’t stopped Sky raising its prices over the past year; and subscribers have just been notified of another price increase from next month – which i suspect is an attempt to paper over the cracks. A friend of mine decided this week that he couldn’t justify paying £83 per month so he rang them to cancel. Without fuss, they reduced his sub to £60pm and retained his custom. How often is that being replicated around the country – and in Sky’s other territories? It sounds ominous to me.
Being a golf addict, I have been a Sky subscriber since it started and will stay with them until their golf coverage deteriorates. But golf is a minority sport, relatively speaking. Soccer is where it’s at – and where Sky’s grip is weakening.
