And so we come to the case of Chris Oil (AKA Mrs Williams) and that holding of 48% of New World Oil and Gas (NEW) – as opposed to the 10% figure that Nomad and Broker Beaumont Cornish was happy to sign off just last week. Mrs Oil/Chris Williams (mix and match as appropriate) has a potential £7m problem – but YOU can help save him/her.

Naah …………… let the “do well” become a “nare do well” and get a useful dose of humility . He can then sue Fatty Cornish for his 7 million since presumably it was the nomad that wrongly advised him as to the safe limits of his position . All he has to do is sell down his stake anyways ……….. they wont take any action then .

If Chris Oil (& his drag persona Mrs Williams) owns 49% of the existing stock then regulators should force him to play by the rules not get a sympathy get of jail card. In fact I’d go further and say that as Chris tips shares and has the requisite brain cells to trade them he should be treated no differently to the brokers, NOMADs, fatcats etc this site regularly (properly) slams.
PS I wish you’d stop telling readers to F Off Tom ~ we get that it’s your site not ours but presumably you rely on us mere mortals visiting (for ad revenue) and buying your services (HSR, NF, books, shows) to help balance the books.

It’s because I love this site and its core values that I despair of its occasional excessive childishness. I want the regulators, the industry and your peers to take you seriously and not dismiss you as a joke.
And if it’s true that no-one has any control over what is uploaded for public consumption under your banner then I urge you to vest that responsibility in one of your less childish associates.

Chris Oil happens to be a very nice bloke. I like him a lot. Rather eccentric, true. But the boring City needs characters. Obviously he was unaware of this rule, or he would not have put himself in this position. I’ve been doing shares since the days contract notes were in Latin, and I’m not sure I knew it, either. Chris is a share-shifter like the rest of us and should, nay, must, be supported. I have no love for the City establishment and their ‘job’s worth’ regulations which so often let the real nasties get away with it.

Sorry Malcolm the takeover rules are commonly known I’m very surprised you claim to be unaware of them ~ surely some of the shares you’ve held over the years have been subject to takeover/merger talks? Normal investors don’t buy just shy off a controlling interest. Stupidity isn’t a defence nor is coming unstuck through greed.

Chrisoil is anything but a nice bloke. He’s a horror show of a human being who, among other things, told a cancer patient on one of the chat sites that he hoped she would die, wrote xenophobic filth on another site, and pretended to be a Shell employee in the 1990s. No one will, or should, have any sympathy for him.

Totally agree he’s a bully and spends an huge amount of time telling everyone else that he is an “expert”. His share tips and sell rec’s are often mendacious in nature. Most of it seems to involve the “pump” whilst he quietly shifts his own position only informing of his sell when other are bemoaning being spiked yet again.
The amount of time he spends sounding off about takeovers with regard to his “tips” makes me convinced that he jolly well should have been aware.
He loves talking the talk now time to do the walk!

If he’d got to 51% he’d be in the clear. Anyway, the Panel can’t actually force him to make an offer – its claws are quite blunt these days (See Bryan Myerson and Principal Capital).
Malcolm, I believe you consider yourself to be a relatively sophisticated investor? Then you must at least have some understanding of the takeover rules, otherwise you should do yourself a favour and put all your savings in a discretionary broking account and do the rest of us a favour and steer clear of share tipping sites.
I’m often staggered by the lack of corporate finance knowledge on this website with all sorts of stuff made up about, among other things, the AIM Rules (TW), the rules of rights issues (BT). It makes you wonder what other stuff they make up!
My tip: take much of what you read on this site with a massive pinch of salt.

He could just buy another 400m shares on the open market – pretty easy given the volumes being traded – then he could quite rightly claim to own the entire company which would mean he wouldn’t need to bid at all. 400m shares at 0.1p is only £400k.
