Sarah, the Mrs of Nick Richards, who is also a stalwart of Woodlarks, has written to you all with a few photos of what you funded. Over to her...
Hello Tom and Friends
Just a few words from us to say many thanks to you and your readers for the continued generous support towards the Woodlarks grotto. After a two year enforced Covid break, It was a great relief to finally get back to having a proper Grotto, and not doing it over Zoom. It went incredibly well, and the children and volunteers had an amazing time! We purchased over 160 gifts and decorated 75 trees as well as put up many, many lights!
We are truly touched by your generosity, especially as Christmas in this present financial climate is going to be tough for so many people. This was brought home to us when we were told on more than one occasion by staff, that some of the children were receiving the only gift they would get this year. One young man didn’t open his gift, when asked why, he said he wanted to save it until Christmas as it was going to be the only one. It was very humbling.
Some of the children were not able to understand the concept of Christmas, but had a wonderful sensory experience with the lights, live music, snow machines, interactive toys and of course, some overly enthusiastic Elves. We are still very proud to be able to offer so many truly inspiring children such an experience. We do specifically aim to have the children with the most complex & profound challenges visit us. We are lucky to have all the facilities necessary to meet the multiple requirements of these young people to ensure their comfort and dignity are maintained at all times. These are the children who would be most unlikely to get such an experience anywhere else.
We did have one school cancel at the last minute due to the weather being too cold. Our Elves, determined that the children should not miss out, contacted the school and arranged to take Santa and the grotto to the school instead, they even took the musicians along and gave the children a wonderful time in their own classroom.
So, many thanks again for your kindness in helping us make some special memories for the children. We wish you all a peaceful Christmas and a great 2023.
With kind regards from Sarah, Nick and the Grotto Team
