I am still preferring the new Cheese and Honey Mustard Toastie offering from Greggs, rather than its shares

I am not surprised that one survey this morning observed that “food price inflation fell for the fifth month in a row to 9.9% from 11.5%...down for the first time in more than two years in month-on-month terms”. Anyone who has visited a supermarket, or purchased online, can see this trend across all the players from the Germans to Waitrose (and everyone else in between). I look forward to hearing the comments from Tesco (TSCO) about all of this tomorrow, but are such trends (within a general cost of living crisis) good or bad for names such as Greggs (GRG)?

A few thoughts on Wood Group and then onto Greggs (and its vegan offerings)

What is going to happen next at Wood Group (WG.)? I read this morning that bidder “Apollo submitted a fourth proposal for a cash offer...at 237p per share”. And what has the company’s board concluded?; “this Latest Proposal continues to undervalue the Group and is therefore minded to reject”, but it will “continue to engage...on a limited basis, with Apollo". All heating up there! My thought (hope) has always been for a return to a 250p share price and I keep on holding akin to my comments a couple of weeks ago here. It's all interesting stuff, but let’s also talk about today’s numbers from Greggs (GRG).

Confirming my bad day buy levels for Greggs and Sage Group shares

Back in May I observed that I would much rather eat a “hotly-debated Vegan Sausage Roll” than buy shares in Greggs (GRG). I also said back then that the combination of a sub 20 quid share price AND the company’s first-half numbers on 2nd August would also be an interesting combination. We had the former occur over much of July, but the shares have pushed back to over a 2100p share price with the numbers published today.

Nosh-on-the-Go King Is Set to Soar After Earlier Lockdown Hit

Hello Share Tweakers. We’ve all noticed shops closing in our town centres. The new businesses springing up seem mostly to be in the catering trade. Coffee shops and cafes are the main invaders, restaurants are not. Many posher eating places never recovered from lockdowns and stay shut and one high street catering venture that appeals to me in these difficult days is Greggs (GRG).

GRG

I am still more focused on a “hotly-debated Vegan Sausage Roll” than Greggs shares

Some good news and some less good news for easyJet (EZJ) today. Call me radical but I have booked an easyJet flight for later this year, which is a tiny bit of positive news for its finance team. The less good financial news is that the company is going to have to “offer new and existing cabin crew a £1,000 bonus at the end of the summer holiday season, as airlines battle to retain and recruit staff”. Frankly though, a bit like any company, if it doesn’t have happy and motivated staff it will ultimately struggle. I remain a fan despite a lower share price this morning. And what about Greggs (GRG), which published a trading update this morning? After all a couple of months ago I asked the question “At what share price will I want more than just a vegan sausage roll from Greggs?”...

GRG

At what share price will I want more than just a vegan sausage roll from Greggs?

I am sure many people have almost given up on picking stocks and related investment efforts but - as I noted here on Sunday - if you are not being greedy about looking for investment opportunities when the global markets are fearful, then let an investment company mention your pension and go to bed. As for individual stocks though, there are plenty of interesting things happening today...

Thank you NigelThe US poor jobs numbers in conjunction with the previous 2 months numbers being revised down suggests that we have reached the top of the interest rate cycle. Gold does usually go up over the Christmas period which is promising too. I’m hopeful!!

13th in the best buy table with NESF down 2.1p. Though I would point out the 5.99p dividend paid so far this year with a further 1p to 2p to come from the final dividend. The buy table has some tough numbers. As a Kefi holder I hope to see it climb the table. Though maybe it will be the best buy for next year.

Wow, the guy can certainly talk! Most impressive, the way he really knew his subject, no rifling through notes, umm-ing or ahh-ing.I bought into Uranium Royalty a couple of years back. I'm ahead but not massively but should do well if his predictions are anywhere near correct.
