EnQuest is in a better position than the headline figures in the interims might suggest, Buy

The Energy Profit Levy tax on oil and gas companies with operated assets in the UK has had a big impact on the sector, and the share prices of the companies operating here have reacted accordingly. The market is also nervous of what Labour might do if it were to win the next general election, as there has been much talk from its MPs of increasing taxes even more and also on restrictions to the development of new assets. The latest such company to see its share price hammered upon the release of its financial results has been EnQuest (ENQ) this week, with it trading at almost 15% down at one point and close to the low that it hit back in June prior to oil prices rising sharply.

EnQuest – operations update, an exciting year ahead: BUY

UK North Sea and Malaysia hydrocarbon producer EnQuest (ENQ) has published an Operations update, noting that it delivered free cash flow of around $395 million in 2021 with a realised price of c.$69/bbl, resulting in a stronger balance sheet with net debt reduced to $1,222 million and that net production averaged 50,810 Boepd last month. Good news? You bet.

ENQ

EnQuest – new debt facility, recovery buy

EnQuest (ENQ) has announced a new senior secured borrowing base debt facility of approximately $600 million and an additional amount of $150 million for letters of credit for up to seven years. What is the significance of this?

ENQ

EnQuest – 2020 results, some recent challenges but still a buy

Oil company EnQuest (ENQ) has announced calendar year 2020 results and that “year to date February production averaged 46,635 Boepd, affected by outages, repairs and opportunistic maintenance at Magnus and Kraken”. The shares have currently responded lower to below 19p, but this is a blip. The shares are a buy.

ENQ

EnQuest – an oil recovery buy?

The oil price recovery continues and sector guru Peter Brailey has noted HERE that it is becoming very clear that demand is recovering back to pre-Covid levels along with production and storage decline trends. From around $67, he now sees $100 oil this year as very likely and perhaps inevitable rather than possible. And so to a geared way to play this...

To do otherwise breaches the trust system of money. Only believing money received in the future has value, supports the idea of debt and credit. Without debt ( and return on that debt) , capitalism fails. Ability to print money on demand eliminates debt rational ( return) so collapses capitalism by default.

Others have attested that you only need to issue debt (government bonds) if you are running s as current account deficit. You issue the bonds to pay for your expenses EducationHealthBenefitsRoadsDefenceGovernment staff and buildings PoliceFireCoastguards I’m sure there are others. Quangos etc…If you just print money whilst running a deficit you risk a lack of confidence in the currency. MMT has been shown to be a lot of nonsense because the longer you keep spending what you don’t have the higher your deficit climbs. You either have to grow the economy to reduce the debt or reduce what you are spending. Zimbabwe and other third world countries have shown this. You can end up with hyper inflation which does nobody any good and further causes a sovereign monetary and debt crisis. Reduced public spending and/or increased taxes are the only alternatives….Or are they. The Laffer Curve suggests that the lowering of direct taxes fosters higher productivity and in turn increases tax revenues. Just don’t give all the tax cuts to the billionaires or you’ll end up with Trump’s America - and nobody wants that!In conclusion if it was that easy some other bugger would have done it already. Yes… we’re all screwed 😩

I concur. Meanwhile I took one out - not to replace lending, but to simply place on deposit. Cost me a bit initially but then provided a return as interest rates increased. Paid off the balance prior to company closure. Marginal gain, but it was free money ( to the company, but not the taxpayer). Joke system in all respects imv.

The Covid Cash had to be doled out very quickly because the government decided to shut down the economy .Government bureaucracy is incapable of dealing with process in normal times so in a crisis situation the prospects of Hmrc handling anything efficiently would be zero.Hmrc have consistently shown an inability to operate efficiently.Political parties in opposition always talk about the huge savings they will make once they are in office. It will never happen…
