Jonathon there is no poverty today in the uk, I am always surprised to read your posts when you are obviously well off but you think you know what poverty is, I know from experience what poverty is having experienced it in the 1960s, I blamed myself and did something about it and that is always possible in the UK. I have been to African countries and Bangladesh and seen real poverty but in these countries whats keeping people in poverty is the corruption of the criminal leaders of these countries who keep the poverty stricken down in their place and our socialist government who are hell bent on sending them aid most of which ends up in the pockets of politicians.
