In August I detailed from Motive Television (MTV) an extraordinary litany of failure (HERE) and that this was continuing HERE. This has been further continued with the company’s latest updates…

This announcement tells us that their product will “enable users who have TabletTV portable or mains tuner antennas to use their TabletTV tuners to watch all available Freeview channels on their main televisions via Apple TV.”
What a feature! It lets you watch Freeview on your main TV – something has previously been lacking from main TVs. Or hang on a minute. No it hasn’t. Somehow it is fitting that possibly their last ever product announcement should have all the attributes of a chocolate teapot.

Anyone who knows Java Script can write an app for Apple. Apple will test it in their “walled garden” to make sure it does not screw up the various devices and if it does not they will approve it for release and put it in the App Store along with all the other apps. Most apps are free, but come with some form of advertising. There are quite a lot of 69p apps. I understand the MTV app is relatively expensive at $4.99. Apple do nothing to market the apps ie tell people they are there and how they would fill a massive hole in your life if you download them. Apple take their cut of download and advertising revenues to pay for the testing and admin they have to do, plus a margin, and the rest comes back to whoever submitted the app. If you are into Java Script writing as a hobby, it is a way to get a bit of pocket money for doing something you like doing. As far as making a business model for a PLC out of it is concerned, you have to be havin’ a giraffe, which is why MTV has always been a complete rum and coke – except for the mug punters who lost a load of money on it; they do not seem to be seeing the funny side. Maybe they should down load the app so they can switch off their freeview box (assuming it is not already built into their TV), and still watch old episodes of only fools and horses to cheer themselves up.
