Not Scared of UK Bank Shares? This One Makes a Good Account of Itself.

Hello Share Scrimpers. Here I go again - recommending a bank for your scrutiny. I sometimes wonder why I bother, as the big British banks have an eight-year-old habit of letting us down.

Lloyds still seems to be significantly undervalued to me given its declared dividend policy.
I’m not sure what’s holding it down. The remaining govt stake maybe. I don’t see a massive housing crash on the horizon. Perhaps a correction at the top end and or a sudden flood of buy-to-let houses coming to the market. Even with these worse case scenarios in my view the share should be worth over a pound at which there would still be a 5 per cent yield in a year’s time.
    What do you think ?

  2. Hello Marv. I absolutely agree with all you say. Lloyds is worth a quid and it is only the government’s rush to get rid of their shares which is depressing the price. I’m holding my very large chunk for the long term.

  3. Oh no I am scared ………..never again ………….. My biggest ever losses ……….Lloyds and RBS post 2008 . Took me five years to recoup fully and the Mrs was on my case almost daily ( well it felt like it anyway ) Right now …..rest assured , they will be thinking up new and inventive ways to get regulatory fines imposed on them .

  4. Mad as hell.

Don’t know about RBS but you have to feel for the boss of Barclays. To alleviate his concionce after having the share price tank, halving the divi., sacking thousands of his staff, the ‘poor’bugger has to get by on a measly 6 mill. Come the revolution………..

    Malcolm

Under the stewardship of a Sir F Goodwin, RBS indulged in a long series of activities of recklessness bordering on downright criminality which, along with its peers, have effectively bankrupted our nation for generations to come.

Despite endless promises, following the financial crisis of turning over a new leaf and returning to traditional and ethical banking, RBS has proved itself incapable of changing its character and has if anything indulged in even worse practices since the crisis, proving they have learnt nothing from the past.

Lest we forget, RBS’s record since 2008…….

Libor Manipulations resulting in fines and penalties of £125 million levied by the FSA a further fine of $325 million from US Commodities and Futures Trading Commission. A further fine charged by US Department of Justice of $150m.

    https://www.gov.uk/government/speeches/statement-by-the-financial-secretary-to-the-treasury-on-rbs-libor

    then we have……..

SFC reprimands and fines The Royal Bank of Scotland PLC $6 million for internal control failings. Plus the bank admits to charges of use of fraudulent wire taps.

    https://webb-site.com/codocs/SFC140422.pdf

    to continue……

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has today fined The Royal Bank of Scotland and NatWest £14,474,600 for serious failings in their advised mortgage sales business.

    https://www.fca.org.uk/news/fca-fines-rbs-and-natwest-for-failures-in-mortgage-advice-process

RBS has been fined £56 million for an epic IT failure in June 2012

    www.techweekeurope.co.uk/e-regulation/rbs-fail-fine-natwest-156117

of course, the tale don’t end as we learn……..

RBS and their part in the Forex Rigging scandal……..

As RBS was fined £430m – on top of the £400m of penalties announced in November – boss Ross McEwan said: “The serious misconduct that lies at the heart of today’s announcements has no place in the bank that I am building. Pleading guilty for such wrongdoing is another stark reminder of how badly this bank lost its way and how important it is for us to regain trust.” ( Ha Ha…… yeah right!)

    http://www.theguardian.com/business/2015/may/20/banks-hit-by-record-57bn-fine-for-rigging-forex-markets

Remember, Malcolm this is only the beginning, there are still a whole canfull of worms still waiting to be split, ie Offences related to the US subprime housing crisis which RBS is still awaiting its fine, added together with numerous examples of other shocking behaviour and misdemeanours , ranging from PPI mis-selling to shoddy bullying non existent customer care makes RBS one of the worst of a bad bunch and certainly not worthy of your strap line.

  6. Dear me, Alkers. I have to admit the punitive side of the RBS equation looks bad. However, I think that is mostly reflected in the current share price, which is dire. I think a rally is on the cards, at least until the next scandal breaks. Wilders, I wish I’d heeded you warning about banks years ago – now it’s too late as the share prices have fallen to a point where Uk banks should recover to some extent.

    Malcolm

As my last post tried to illustrate what a complete load of irresponsible, crooked, greedy, selfish bastards, (of which, RBS is at the forefront) our major bankers are, comes this damning report from The Office for Budget Responsibility.

The report states taxpayers will never get their money back for bailing out the banks. The interest paid so far by the Treasury on the £133billion it had to borrow to prop up the financial system has reached £24.4billion, according to the OBR.

Taxpayers are £17.2billion in the red on RBS – £6.7billion worse than previous estimates as shares have plunged.

    http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/markets/article-3495792/Taxpayers-never-money-bailing-banks-says-watchdog-rescue-loan-hits-24bn.html#comments

Despite wrecking our economy for generations to come, these ‘talented’ financial wizards have carried on in the same fashion as before the 2008 crisis, in many cases even worse……. fraud, money laundering, market manipulations, sanction busting, the list of open criminality perpetrated by these folks is virtually endless!

I cannot comprehend how such blatant misbehaviour is allowed to go unpunished other than the issuing of fines, which the banks appear to accept simply as an ‘operating expense’?

How can the folks, that are paid literally millions of pounds annually for running and governing these enterprises of criminality be allowed to walk away scott free?

I, for one in all good conscience can’t invest in such organisations guilty of such horrendous ‘crimes’ against our society, that has cost the weakest and poorest amongst us so much!

Look into the new challenger banks – these are the future – ethical and responsible. Look at the annual report released from Shawbrook (SHAW), the other day for example, Malcolm?

The challenger banks are the new acceptable face of British banking.
