It is so much smarter to buy 3i Infrastructure shares than boring old bonds

I was listening to a fund management industry rogue (aka institutional management top knob) talking on the radio this morning, rambling on about how his average client would keep on loving cash for ages in our changing and evolving world. It has amazed me for about three decades the ridiculous fees some people paid for products that were complete random walks. And, whilst I think cheap passive management has its own challenges, I am happy to see the industry is facing material pricing pressures. And suffice to say, the seven quid odd a month your ShareProphets subscription has been damn good value for money for ages already.

3i Infrastructure is still a smarter investment than cash or bonds

I am trying to remember if I have ever owned shares in a water company. Maybe when I historically took over an institutional fund, there was an allocation which I (quickly) sold and replaced with something more interesting. Therefore, when I read the news that Severn Trent (SVT) has announced a £1 billion money raising this morning, I wish any investors good luck but I am not going to be involved (even if the Qatar Investment Authority is committed to a £500 million further investment). I think we can all guess how the total return profile of equity investors in this sector may well perform over the next decade. And you also have to be careful about the infrastructure sector too.

3IN

Between playing the investment game or not, you can do a lot worse than 3i Infrastructure

It is the last day of the month and also the final day of the third quarter of the year. Interesting times at many levels but it is not impossible out there for any investor (so long as you don’t pick some crazy investments). To that end, I hope you have not been too light in your allocations to the commodities, tobacco, defence and pharmaceutical sectors, as well as a bit of general non-sterling exposure. But one area a bunch of investment thinkers are very excited about is the infrastructure space. And that brings me back to 3i Infrastructure (3IN).

3IN

Good news - I guess - for boring investors via 3i Infrastructure

You can invest in many different sectors apart from equities, bonds and cash. For myself I like having some gold exposure too, but you can also have (I guess) bitcoin or hedge funds, a second or third home, artwork, green investment angles or infrastructure exposure. The latter is worthy and reasonable but, let’s face it, a bit boring. Nevertheless I am sure a few of you are big fans of 3i Infrastructure (3IN) with its (oh so excitable) aim to “invest responsibly in infrastructure, delivering long-term sustainable returns to shareholders and having a positive impact on our portfolio companies and their stakeholders”...

Here's an Investment Trust Working Sectors Which May Be More Reliable than Most

Hello, Share Plumpers. Generally, I’m uncomfortable with companies that use initials and numbers in their brand names. My old-fashioned prejudice is that the founders may lack imagination and miss the trick of having a catchy name that people remember. But this jaundiced view probably means I miss out on some interesting opportunities...

Only about 3.5 million files of approximately 6 million Epstein files have been released, and of those released many are heavily redacted by the Trump DOJ in Washington. The answer to your question may be in the redacted and unreleased files. Under the Epstein Files Transparency Act, the DOJ is permitted to suppress explicit abuse materials.
