Fitbug (FITB) is a company that I’ve been watching with interest ever since its meteoric rises in October and November. I could sort of see why the rise from less than 0.4p to over 5p could be justified to some extent by the news that its ‘Fitbug’ was to be extensively stocked by Sainsbury’s and US giant Target, especially with Thanksgiving and Xmas on the way.

For me this was a novelty ramperoony that shows the excesses of AIM casino, Traders jamboree, now for me that novelty has worn off.

It needs to win legal case against Fitbit. However problem for Fitbug is Fitbit has market dominance. Fitbit easy to use….well integrated with mobile technology.

Always hard to call with this type of company as many said the same about the likes of Apple in the early days, for every one of those millions don’t make it and certainly not suggesting there is any comparison – just that it is hard to tell in this sector and some crazes last and others are other in a flash (got a feeling for instance that when VHS came out there was an alternative that was seen as being the one that every one would go for – then you have flops like mini disc that were expected to do well and never made it, plus loads of other examples). It isn’t one that I would risk fortunes on that is for sure but if people do want to buy i see that period when the new shares come onto the market (especially the loan conversion which i think will be flipped instantly – hard to in advance as not many shares in free float on this one), and prior to hype over court case and sales figures being released, as being the best time to get a good price. From there it is all down to how quickly they can grow things to take advantage of the current craze. I do like the fact that the directors have been successful in the past (LA Fitness sold for 100 million-ish from memory) and do have a fair bit of their own money in here via shares and also loans to the company. Plus of course they managed to get the placing away at 9p and wouldn’t have been much chance to sell at a profit since then – although of course knowing how AIM operates some of that would have likely been pre-sold (illegally if it was). Worse case i think is that people buying at that time and price level would at least get the chance to bank some profit from there over the next couple of months, and if they’re really lucky they could be in one of this type of company that really does make it. Just my view of course.
