Hello Share Folk. I’m going to the hospital today to see about my prostate gland. I started the routine tests a few years ago and have been under the eye of a brilliant consultant ever since. There’s a lot of debate of whether we should have these tests done, as it causes a lot of anxiety and their reliability is not always that great. On the whole I would suggest you do have them done, if you’re of a certain age. But what do I know?

Those younger readers take note ……… as you get older things stop working or drop off entirely . My solution is focus on the good things and buy a car or motorbike with an even bigger engine than your previous one .
Good luck with that one Malcolm.

Hope everything went OK at the Hospital Malc and hope the shares you mentioned get the news they need to go up.We are at the hospital also today and like you say its not always about the share price.:)

I too hope all is well Malcolm. Speaking of which, it’s thought that pumpkin seeds (not so much pumpkin seed oil, as far as I’m aware, as it has a lower zinc content due to it not being fat soluble) are very good for the function of the prostate and for male well-being in general after a certain age. I don’t think any verifiable claims have been made that they prevent malignancy, merely that, for instance, they can reduce the frequency of the need to spend a penny (there’s a dreadful pun in there).
PS Small typo.: should be Avacta

A close watch on your PSA level is a good idea – like you my doctor has been watching my level over the last 8 years during which it rose from 4.5 to 8.3. In February I was referred to the Woolwich Hospital and had a biopsy in April – the biopsy was not as bad a procedure as it sounds. I was diagnosed with cancer in 2 places on my Prostate and I was operated on during August at Guys using a ‘robot’ technique. They do not think it had spread but if I had left it longer I am sure it would have done. The operation was a ‘doddle’ but the incontinence aftermath was a surprise – this however has improved markedly recently.

Thanks for your good wishes, gang. But I feel a bit of a fraud, as I am just being over cautious, rather than in any danger. Michael: I was in the same situation as you, except that my biopsy showed no sign of cancer. I was just going for a routine check today, but this time, the consultant has ordered a bone scan, just to be sure. though he thinks I am almost certainly in the clear. I think we were both right to have things checked, as my father certainly left it too late.
David, I hope you visit was not for anything serious. Health is such a worry, quite different from anxiety about losing shares. Wilders: More sage advise, especially for miseries like me.
Spaggers: I’ll try those, thanks. The alternatives are taking drugs to shrink the prostate, but the natural course seems more attractive.
