Looking forward to next week’s full set of numbers and comments from Wood Group

There are very few stock markets around the world open this Friday, so that makes it a four day investment week. But it is far from dull out there given a bunch of the world’s biggest American banks are out with quarterly numbers on Wednesday and Thursday. Plus there are set to be a bunch of interesting updates from FTSE and other UK market names - I may have commented on once or two before - starting tomorrow. In short, I look forward to an Easter egg (or three) to help rebuild a bit of energy. However I thought today might be a bit quiet…until I saw news from John Wood Group (WG.)...

WG

Time to (re)buy Wood Group?

Did you read Gary’s article on Johnson Matthey (JMAT) yesterday? It is a good read and I completely agree that its formal numbers in a couple of weeks time are going to be of great interest. For what it is worth, I think there will be a return to a thirty quid plus share price at some point over the next two or three years. Anyhow, another stock I am thinking about today is Wood Group (WG.), ‘a British multinational engineering and consulting business with headquarters in Aberdeen, Scotland’, which I last wrote about HERE.

WG

Despite excitable ‘net-zero future’ comments, I continue to avoid Wood Group

Back in June I observed about ‘British multinational engineering and consulting business’ John Wood Group (WG.) that ‘having made a small profit a few months ago, my view today is to AVOID (but keep watching)’. As for the shares since then, they have gone down a bit further to currently trade at 222p. I guess I bought more (last year) and sold all (early this year) pretty well. So any interest now?

WG

Should I take my (small) profits on Wood Group and run?

You are always learning with the investment world. Take Wood Group (WG.), which describes itself as ‘one of the world’s leading consulting and engineering companies operating across Energy and the Built Environment’. Back in August 2019 HERE I rambled on about how I could see the share at five or six quid but - due mainly to the impact of the Covid-19 crisis - the stock instead more than halved to below 150p. Fortunately I spotted an opportunity after publishing some thoughts back in August last year HERE and a week or so later I more than doubled my position at about a 200p share price. The net result is that I am now siting on a small profit. So do I move on or stay excited?

WG

Wood Group – a recovery buy?

Wood Group (WG.) announced half-year results including “operating profit of $65.6m (June 2019: $138.8m)…considers it prudent not to pay a 2020 interim dividend” but the shares look to be at a depressed valuation and the announcement also included “recent signs of stabilisation… expect good cash generation and a further reduction in net debt in the second half. Well placed for medium term growth as markets recover and the energy transition gathers pace”...

WG

Wood Group – right on and going up!

Back in mid-June I observed that short sellers in energy services-and-more company Wood Group (WG.) should be taking their profits. The shares have moved up a little bit since, an appreciation which has been nicely supplemented today following the company's first half results...

WG

Time for short sellers to take their profits on Wood Group?

The short sellers were smart to highlight Wood Group (WG.) as a top opportunity back at the start of the year as it has been a dog stock this year.  Well thematically you can understand why given the sheer volatility in the oil price so far this year and the slash and burn of capex budgets by the oil giants.  That is not good news for a company providing a range of services to the sector.

WG

Still getting Wood...Group

I have to thank Malcolm for being the contributor on this website writing most recently on the oil/energy services name Wood Group (WG.) back in July. His musings seem very akin to my own earlier in the year that 'if you have a decent stake like me then chill and write down the circa five quid level to add another slug'. That latter musing has been an unprofitable call to date but today's first half numbers have reiterated my faith in the name…

Wood Group Grows Seeing the Risk Lessen and the Chance of a Bigger Share Price Growing too

Hello, Share Toasters. It must be ten years ago now that I dumped my shares in Wood Group (WG.), the supplier of stuff and services to the black gold industry among other related functions, including greener forms of energy. I didn't regret that move as the share price hit a chequered path afterwards, suffering like all oil-related companies from the infamous oil price crash...

I am sorry that you have to put up with this defamatory garbage from an individual who has, to put it plainly, gone off the rails. It comes with the territory of being in the public domain.I detest it, and the manner in which you are exposed to his simplistic nonsense. I trust readers will ignore Mathieson, and do not waste any time reading his vitriolic nonsense.

I think he is confusing you with a saint Donald of Trumpton, a man mentioned more than any other person in the Epstein files and whose wife hates him more than any other person alive. She only appears from her New York sanctuary when she’s paid to do so. FYI Trump Delusion Syndrome actually refers to people who think he has ever been any different to the soulless farting husk that appears on our screens spouting bile and bilge on a daily basis. He’s a coarse, pussy grabbing piece of shite that deserves to be in an orange jumpsuit with a buzz cut and deported because his grandfather didn’t register his citizenship correctly. PS gold is going south, not north where I want it 😭

At a bullish high of £16.22 five years ago I can't see any way back. The important Art & Antiques sector in ATG has disappointed and it's not hard to see why. I can directly bid online at Sotheby's and Christies at zero cost, while the ATG portal generally charges 6% of the successful bid. If you're also paying the auction house 30% or more on top of your winning bid, that's serious extra money. A direct competitor, Easy Live Auction, offers the option of a single charge of £3 to register for an auction with no portal charge at all on winning lots, and no upper bid limit. I only use ATG now if there is absolutely no other way of bidding online at a particular auction.
