As I ponder the best way to kindle economic growth, I have come up with a cunning plan: taxing dodgy RNSs at no-one-is-watching o’clock on Christmas Eve. That’s sure to work. My friend Diane Abbot reckons if I charge a very reasonable and affordable £1 million per dodgy RNS on Christmas Eve on these rich companies which pay little tax – largely on the AIM tax-avoidance market - it will bring in trillions, especially if last year’s total of 46 is repeated. They have to pay their fair share, after all. As an internationally recognised economist, I think we have to take these numbers seriously.
