Previously writing on Brighton Palace Pier and other UK leisure and entertainment group Brighton Pier (PIER), in February with the shares falling to 61p I concluded I remained cautious of the outlook and continued to avoid. The shares most recently closed at 57p… and what of them currently heading towards 40p on the back of a “trading statement”?

Previously writing on branded clothing, accessories and footwear company Superdry (SDRY), last month with the shares rising back above 110p I asked just how challenging is the “consumer landscape” for it?, with it still talking of additional steps to further strengthen its balance sheet despite a $50 million disposal agreement. Now a trading statement… and the shares currently down below 90p.

Beauty, personal care and life sciences products company InnovaDerma (IDP) has made a trading statement including “despite the continued impact of COVID-19 restrictions, and the unseasonably poor weather in the UK over April and May, revenues for the year have performed broadly in line with expectations… we have made strong progress in rebuilding our gross margin”. So why then have the shares responded to 35p, more than 10% lower?…

Well, there was some improvement, but not exactly a big jump in most cases. So it’s possible that the utilities, for example, could see some more jolly share action before long...

“Owner and operator of 47 premium pubs across Southern England and Wales”, The City Pub Group (CPC) has announced a “Year End Trading Update”, including “the board is pleased with the overall performance of the group for 2019”. The shares are currently at 197.5p – er, more than 9% lower on the day!…

Hello Share Thrashers. Though I can’t guarantee this advice is sound, relying on history, I would suggest this is a good time to sell any shares you might have in high street stores. And here are my reasons.

“Distil plc (AIM: DIS), owner of premium drinks brands RedLeg Spiced Rum, Blackwoods Gin and Vodka, Blavod Black Vodka, Jago's Cream Liqueur and Diva Vodka, is pleased to provide an update on trading for the first quarter of its current financial year”. However… it intra-day (10:13am) and the shares are currently at 1.20p – approaching 15% lower!...

The company with the exclusive right to develop, operate and sub-franchise Domino's Pizza stores in Poland, DP Poland (DPP) has announced 2018 results emphasising “24% increase in System Sales, 18% growth in revenue, 66 stores open to-date”, “the share placing completed at the end of February gives the business the requisite funds for further corporate store openings and investment in sales and marketing… we have launched an innovative marketing campaign for 2019” and “we are trialling a partnership with the largest delivery aggregator, Pyszne (Takeaway.com) and early signs of significant incremental sales look promising”. However, already down from more than 20p as recently as December, the shares are currently further lower at around 8p…

Revolution Bars (RBG) has announced results for its half-year ended 29th December 2018, including revenue up over 6% to £78.5 million and that one of its brands, “Revolution has been reviewed, the issues identified, and workstreams are being implemented to restore it to growth. Our confidence in achieving this is underpinned by the good performance of the new Revolution venues, while the recently refurbished sites are also seeing uplifts”. The shares have responded currently to 66p... approaching 17% down on the day…

Previously writing just over a year ago on Revolution Bars (RBG) it was on it going from ‘platform to be confident about our prospects’ to profit warning in less than 3 months. Then heading towards 130p, the shares jumped a couple of months later on a 200p per share possible offer approach. However, an offer was voted down by shareholders and the shares have subsequently fallen back towards 150p before a Trading Update today…

Another day...another retail stock. 'Tis the (reporting) season I guess. Today's offering is Kingfisher (KGF), which longer-term readers will know I have traded once before over the last year or so, buying sub 3 quid and moving out after a 10%+ gain plus some dividends. Well, as noted most recently here, the share has been kicking around the three quid level today and that interests me. So is my call to trade the DIY and related company again for a double digit plus target gain looking wise or not after today's Q1 update?

Womens value retailer Bonmarche (BON) has announced it has followed a “generally poor summer season” with “extremely poor” trading in September – stated to be “largely as a consequence of the unseasonably hot weather which has not favoured sales of our new autumn ranges”. Hmmm…

A “Trading update” announcement from fresh meat and food-to-go retailer Crawshaw (CRAW) includes in the first paragraph “suppressed footfall patterns caused by a combination of the international football, adverse weather and Brexit… persisted”. Uh-oh…

The British weather in totally unpredictable. Every forecast for my neck of the woods seems to be widely out. But if the weather is hard to fathom the stock market is even more so.
